PREPARING FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER
Dear Jeffreys Grove Families,
I hope this message finds you enjoying your Sunday and the New Year! As we come to the end of the holiday season and get ready to return to school, I want to wish you all a safe and happy 2021. Below are important reminders:
Confirmation letters for families of students enrolled in the spring Virtual Academy were sent on December 16, 2020 via email. If you did not receive a letter from us confirming your enrollment in the Virtual Academy starting on January 20. 2021, that means your child is not enrolled in the Virtual Academy for the spring of 2021.
Families are reminded that all students will be attending school remotely from January 4th to January 15th, 2021. Plan B students will return to the school building on January 20, 2021 (see Calendar Reminders below for details).
As I shared in the December message, we are in the process of looking at the enrollment data that has come in and making decisions based on family choices. With the movement in enrollment from one learning environment to another and class size legislation requirements, we are re-configuring our master schedule and staffing plan. We are de-comboing some classes and creating new rosters and re-assigning some students to different classrooms in some cases. To the highest degree possible it is our goal to preserve the current teacher assignments but this is not entirely possible given the constraints of class size legislation and parent choices for learning modality.
In the coming week teachers will receive updated rosters for the spring. Parents will hear directly from their new teacher, where this is the case, no later than January 13, 2021.
CALENDAR REMINDERS:
- January 4 - first day back for students after Winter Break (Everyone remote)
- January 6 - remote learning asynchronous day - no live learning
- January 13 - remote learning asynchronous day - no live learning
- January 18 - Holiday - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- January 19 - teacher workday - no school for students
- January 20 - spring semester begins

In Reading our non-immersion “JG Paleontologists” will learn more about fossils with a focus on the steps of fossilization. They will use evidence from nonfiction texts to answer questions related to fossilization and will then use their research to describe the steps of fossilization. Our Spanish Immersion “JG Zoologists” will continue to build expertise on different animals.
In the Letterland world they will learn and have fun with the “er robot stealer”!
In Science students will continue to learn about sound with a focus on pitch and volume. They will also learn about amplification.
Did you know that...
Origami comes from the word Kirigami, which is the Japanese art of cutting paper, named from the words "kiru" (to cut) and "kami" (paper)?
To interpret rhythm patterns Math skills are used?
