LVMS Is Awesome - after 7:15!

I realize that I am extremely blessed to have such an opportunity everyday to work with amazing teachers, students and staff. And I also know that kids are incredibly excited to get to school each morning(cough, cough). With that being said, please know that we cannot guarantee supervision of students until 7:15 AM. I know that circumstances sometimes means students being dropped off earlier than that, and we do our best to make it to the Lower Gym as early as possible, but until 7:15 they may be unsupervised.

We had a great week at LVMS, and here are a few of the best things I've seen...

Teacher Luncheon - October 19th!

If you're new to LVMS, we have a long tradition of doing a monthly teacher appreciation. It's just a small way to say thank you for all the long hours & extra demands that comes with teaching/working in a small district. We serve/feed about 40 teachers and staff.

It's something they all look forward to each month so please help us keep the tradition alive by contributing once or twice throughout the year.

Last month's luncheon was a huge success so if you helped thanks so much. The teachers & staff really enjoyed everything!

November & December are traditionally baked goods that the teachers can bring home in lieu of lunch so if you are a baker please consider blessing our teachers. Be on the lookout for those links next week.

Need Parent Portal?

How can you keep up with your student's grades? Having a Parent Portal set up is the most helpful way to keep track of your student's progress. If you need a Parent Portal ID to set yours up, please email Sue Kunze at sue_kunze@lagovista.txed.net and she will send it to you.

PSAT in October

We are very excited that all 8th grade students will be able take the PSAT on 10/17! Preparation is not required, but there are some things you can do if you'd like to see what it's all about. You can access the online PSAT Student Guide at psat.org/8-9resources. Also, you can visit psat.org/practice to help you get ready for test day.

The PSAT is not mandatory. If you would like your 8th grade to opt out of the test, please contact Kerri Walker with questions at kerri_walker@lagovista.txed.net

The test will start at 8:30 on Wednesday, 10/17. If your student is late, they may not be able to take the test. So please make sure they are on time to take advantage of this opportunity. If they are absent, there will not be a make up test date.

CEIC Members Needed

We've got great things happening at LVMS, and we would love to gather input from the community on how we are doing and how we can improve.A great way to do that is to serve on our CEIC team! We are looking for Community Members, Parents and Business Owners to help out - we've had a great response, but we need 1-2 more. If you are interested, please email me at eric_holt@lagovista.txed.net

"I Don't Feel Good..."

We know that our students aren't going to feel good from time to time, but please help them with the process. If they aren't feeling good, they should go to the nurse rather than go to the bathroom and text you to bring them home. If a student is checked out because they are sick, it will only be an excused absence IF they have seen Mrs. Harkins, our nurse. Thank you!

GT Referral Date Has Been Extended

If you would like your student to be referred for Gifted and Talented, the assessment deadline has been extended to October 15th. Late referrals will not be accepted! Please ask Randenne Kelley if you have any questions about the process at randenne_kelley@lagovista.txed.net . Referral forms can be found on our website as well - http://www.lagovistaisd.net/page/Publications

Tutorials?

If your student needs any help - we have two options for tutorials. If they would like to come in during the morning at 7:45, teachers are available by appointment. Also, each student has an advisory period each day where they are able to get help from their teachers. If you are dropping off in the morning, please make sure to drop off by the cafeteria and the students will walk up from there.

Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.

What led you to want to be a teacher? How long have you been in education?

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have been teaching middle school math for 10 years.

We love boating on lake Travis, spending time outdoors, and family time.

Why do you like teaching math?

Not fluently. My minor in college was Spanish, and I studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico for one month, but "when you don't use it, you lose it," and I only remember the basics.
