Start of the New School Year

Bellingham Families,

We had a great start to our new school year; students and staff were excited to get back to work! It is hard to believe that it is already October and we are moving along so quickly.

All new chromebooks have been delivered to each school, and it is amazing seeing all of our students working on their devices. They are participating in very engaging lessons.

Mr. Cutler, former principal of Keough Memorial Academy, is filling in as the interim principal at the Memorial School. He is getting to know and supporting all of the the students and staff during this transition year.

We are looking forward to the continued work that it takes to improve the Bellingham School District. It takes the concerted effort of our students, staff, and community to bring about lasting school improvement and provide each student with a plan to college or career readiness.

Strategic Plan Development for 2020-2025

We are kicking off our strategic plan work this week with the strategic plan committee. It is comprised of teachers, parents and administrators. On Thursday, October 3rd, we will have our kick-off meeting with Timothy Farmer. Mr. Farmer is a former superintendent who now dedicates his time helping districts develop their new plans. Please keep an eye out for additional information and opportunities to participate. We will be sending out surveys and having open forums for input from our parents and community.

Manufacturing Technology Course at BHS

Through a collaborative effort with the Blackstone Valley Consortium, Bellingham High School is participating in a pilot course offering of Manufacturing Technology. The Manufacturing Technology hybrid course will provide students with a broad understanding of traditional methods of the manufacturing process as well as the automated manufacturing industry. An emphasis will be placed on workplace safety, measurement and blueprint reading, and the engineering design process. Manufacturing Technology will also focus on the basics fo drafting, including orthographic drawing, isometric drawing, drafting standards, and utilization of CAD commands. These skills will culminate with a project that uses a computer to design a prototype.

The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce through its Educational Hub is collaborating with the Blackstone Valley Public School Districts to provide additional educational opportunities to utilize their Fab Lab that is filled with 3D printing, high-end Roland and FARO machines, state-of-the-art computers running the most recent version of AutoCAD, MaterCAM, Solidworks, and a variety of Microsoft and Adobe applications. We will continue to develop more of these innovative hybrid courses over the next year to offer more opportunities for our students.
