A hopeful outlook!

As we are preparing for October projects and curriculum we are hopeful that Fall is on the Way. Or at least our Florida version of Fall! October brings the projects of Farm Animals, Organic Farming which are always student favorites and the teaching teams as well. We love to fill the learning labs with the scents and textures of harvest and the season! Students are inspired to complete a Spider Project after Miss Terra brought in a spider that she found at her home. Now students want to learn all things SPIDER! We love taking their interests and turning it into and exciting learning experience.

Where The Wild Things Are Parade

Calling all Wild Things for our Annual Wild Things RUMPUS!!

Inside all of us is hope, fear, adventure. Inside all of us is a Wild Thing.

On October 30th the students are invited to participate in the "Wild Rumpus Parade". This will be a regular school day for students attending on Friday. Wild Rumpus Parade will begin at 11:30pm. Students will make Wild Thing Crowns to add to their costumes at school and King/Queen of All Wild things magical wands. Students have the option of making a wild things costume and wearing it to school on Friday October 30th.

Again this is optional and only applies to students in the preschool program. (Does not apply to The Free VPK program.)

This is an annual tradition for our school and the students love creating homemade costumes, crowns, and wands.

Tips for making DIY Wild Things costumes:

Costumes should be safe and free of any type of mask.

Cool for the weather. White t-shirt and white shorts are affordable and cool. Upcycle an old white pair of shorts, skirt, old pajama's, or t-shirt.

Use fabric markers to decorate costume.

Browse Pinterest for DIY Wild Things Costumes.

Keep age appropriate and simple.

Make it a family project on the weekend.

Let's make mischief of one kind or another. Let the wild rumpus begin!!

The teaching team members will be in Tampa for Annual state training.

Learning Labs this Week!

We are so thrilled that our students truly enjoy learning. The learning labs offer such diversity and stimulation that there is something for every type of learner. We encourage you to explore Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences to gain more understanding for how your child learns. Visit this link for more information!

This week students continued following artist Pablo Picasso creating their second masterpiece inspired by Mr. Picasso. We were inspired to make some lemongrass tea. First we clipped fresh lemongrass from eco-village, washed it, cut it into small pieces and let the lemongrass steep in our tea. After a couple of hours we strained out the lemongrass and Presto! Delicious organic, homemade lemongrass tea. It was a favorite with everyone enjoying! In drama some students enjoyed the story Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar acting out and playing the game. We also worked on active listening skills by playing games that required students to list to both a bell and rhythm sticks for specific body movement cues. We found that more practice is needed with active listening. Our friends the 5 Little Monkeys also made an appearance in Drama. It seems that they are always jumping on the bed! Students are beginning to understand that Peace begins with each and every one of us. Stop by the rock room and read the peace chart that is on display as well as view the wooden piece signs created by our peacemakers!

We Have Spirit Yes We Do, We Have Spirit How About You!

School Spirit Shirts

Many students have lime green spirit shirts from last year. You are encouraged to wear yours on Thursdays to show your school spirit. We are preparing to order this years as well! Students are also encouraged to dress for Zumba on Fridays. Students can wear items that will add to the Zumba experience. In year's past students have worn Zumba socks that they created with small jingle bells, added to shirts or a special Zumba Hat. Help your child feel the Zumba Spirit. Students adore Zumba and so does the teaching team. Students are encouraged to bring in a t-shirt next Thursday October 1st that we can design for Zumba Days. Bring in any embellishments that they would like to add, fabric markers, puff fabric paint etc. Please keep simplicity in mind as we will be helping students with this process. You are welcome to add the more detailed embellishments such as bells or beads at home. Please also label your child's shirt. We will have a basket on the playscape teacher table to place t-shirts in.

Optional Project.

Spreading Joy This October

Thank you to all of those that participated in our September campaign to spread awareness about Childhood Cancers. We raised $195 to donate to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital!

This month we are continuing to help others. For those of you who participate in Trick or Treating we will have boxes for Unicef. Pennies for Children!

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF began in 1950 as a way to help kids who need more than candy. Since then, children all over America have gone door-to-door on Halloween with UNICEF collection boxes, calling out, "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!" They have raised more than $175 million for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF since 1950

If you have ever had a loved one in a nursing home, assisted living facility or hospital for an extended period you know how much seeing children means to them. And they will surely light up at the sight of the costumes. Please consider putting this on your list as you will put a smile on the face of many.

Products of The Week.

We are learning so much from the company Ava Anderson. Did you know Ava Anderson started her company at the young age of 14? She is an inspiration to all of us.
