LHS Monday Memo
Week of 11/18/19
Good evening LHS family,
On Thursday evening we offered a session on Vaping Education where valuable information and resources were shared to help our families understand the effects of vaping and addiction, and what to do about it. Faye O'Leary's graphic arts students built a vaping education awareness campaign through the design and development of posters. They hung posters in the LT for parents to view before the Vaping Awareness Event and have also hung the posters around the school, notably up the main stairs from the lobby. They even developed a hashtag encouraging students to take a photo with the posters that spoke to them personally. This is the culmination of a month long public action campaign process that the class has really put forth a lot of thought, effort, and work. Big thanks to Faye O'Leary and her students!!!

NFTE time at LHS!
The Project Student Leaders from Babson under the direction of Professor Jack McCarthy really came through and helped plan and run the event very well. They showed great teamwork in working together to design the flow of the day and then adapt to the reality of 150+ students running around. The two panel sessions were also awesome and provided inspiration and valuable advice to both groups.
When first arriving to the Little Theatre, it really was difficult telling the Babson and Lowell students apart because the Lowell students were so mature and professional throughout the day. If the Babson students did not have their new green name badges, I would have been very confused in figuring out which students were from which school. The feedback about how amazing and successful the conversations were inspired all to look forward to our the spring meeting.
WHAT THE TECH!
Lowell High School is making every effort to go completely paperless with student distributions. This means that in the future, progress reports, report cards, notifications for ACCESS, AP, MCAS, PSAT testing, etc. will be conducted through their Aspen Portal email.
This is the email connected to the student’s LPSD account which gives them access to school computers, Google Apps, school mail, BYOD, the LPSD video server, and much more. It is important that students use a secure and memorable password to access these items. For example, NO ONE should be using their birthdate.
All freshmen will have attended a technology orientation by the end of November, in which one of the objectives is to register with the password recovery tool, and change their LPSD password. Any student who has registered with this tool can change a forgotten LPSD password at anytime. You may have freshmen who have forgotten their LPSD password; please help students by stepping through the forgotten password link with them. If the recovery tool is not working, you can always enter a help desk ticket to have the password reset to their birthdate.
Please encourage your students – at every possible opportunity – to use their LPSD email for communications. Also note that LPSD passwords ARE NOT connected to Aspen passwords. Most students have two seperate passwords, one for Aspen, and one for their LPSD account.
If you would like me to help you work with your advisory students to register with the password recovery tool so that they can create a secure password, please enter a help desk request for Technology Training/ITS or email helpdesk@lowell.k12.ma.us and I will make arrangements.
International Language Day of the Dead Celebration
The International Language Club celebrated Day of the Dead on Monday, November 4th." Over 125 students learned about the holiday, made Mexican arts and crafts, and were treated to a make your own taco buffet. The food and fabulous desserts (like these brownies) were all made by the students and staff of the Courtyard Restaurant." This is always such a fun event for our students - thanks to advisor MaryAnn Dyson!
