September 1 - 6th Grade ONLY
We R Vikings! Responsible-Respectful-Ready
September 2 - First day for 7th and 8th grade
Below are a few updates and reminders as our first day of school quickly approaches!!!
School Hours: School doors open at 7:45 daily. We will open slightly earlier on the first day of school, but beginning on September 2nd the building will not be open prior to 7:45 am. This is consistent with our practice last year. Thank you for beginning the routine of arriving after 7:45 but no later than 8:00. Viking hour begins at 8:00 A.M. every day. Here is a link to our daily time/bell schedule.
Additionally, we ask that 6th and 7th grade students enter through the main entrance. Eighth-grade students should enter the building through the 8th grade wing (near the ramp on Garfield Street). That is door number 14. It's labeled quite well from the outside. We will of course be outside to help direct students to the correct doors/locations during the first few days of school.
Athletics: If your child is participating in a fall sport please make certain all of the necessary paperwork is submitted, the fee has been paid, and you and your child have completed the code of conduct. If you have questions, reach out to Ms. Hanson, Associate Principal at hansonmelissa@mhasd.k12.wi.us
Athletic Passes: If you purchased an athletic pass prior to Wednesday, August 25th we have it in our office. We are open until 3:30 PM this afternoon. If you purchased one in the past two days, you can pick it up in the high school office.
Water Bottles: Please make certain your child has a water bottle with them each and every day!
Face Covering/Masks: Please remember that appropriately wearing a mask while in the Middle School is required at all times regardless of grade level or vaccination status. Here is a link to the most recent Public Health Madison & Dane County order. Please note what is and is not considered an appropriate face covering (see page 2):
https://publichealthmdc.com/documents/2021-08-17_Order_17.pdf
Language from the PHMDC order #17
Face Coverings. Face covering means a piece of cloth or other material that is worn to cover the nose and mouth completely. A face covering must be secured to the head with ties, ear loops, or elastic bands that go behind the head and must fit snuggly but comfortably against the side of the face. Cloth face coverings must be made with two or more layers of breathable fabric that is tightly woven (i.e., fabrics that do not let light pass through when held up to a light source). A face covering does not include bandanas, single layer neck gaiters, face shields, goggles, scarves, ski masks, balaclavas, shirt or sweater collars pulled up over the mouth and nose, or masks with slits, exhalation valves, or punctures.
High School Home Football Begins Tonight
With all after school activities we ask that students continue to follow our behavioral expectations of being RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL AND READY. Please help remind your child of these things when giving them permission to attend after school events. Football games in particular are a very active event for our middle school students. All middle school students should either be in the bleachers with their parents or seated in the middle school section on the north end of the field. They are more than welcome to leave that area for concessions or restroom use, but need to return to the middle school section after that.
Please help support our Vikings by reiterating this with your child.
We Are Hiring!
MHASD needs paraprofessionals, bus drivers, substitutes, and custodial staff. If you could help with continuing to spread the word, we sure would appreciate it! If you are interested or know someone who is interested, check out our Career Opportunities webpage.

Mt. Horeb Middle School students and parents/guardians are asked to make their course selections carefully. Course changes can only be made at the request of the student and parent/guardian within the first two weeks of the first quarter or the last two weeks of the second quarter. Any course requests made in the last two weeks of the second quarter will be made effective at the start of the second semester. A primary factor in the consideration of adding or dropping a class will be the space available in the course and within the student’s schedule.
Requests for course changes that are made outside of these time frames require the recommendation of the Student Services Team (School Counselor, Psychologist, Social Worker, Nurse) as well as approval by a building administrator.
Students are required to meet with the counselor and classroom teacher if requesting a schedule change. They must also complete the schedule form which must be signed by the student, parent, and administrator.

Exceptions and appeals to scheduling policies are made to and approved by the building administration.

Information From our District's Activities Director
Hello Viking Fans! On behalf of the Activities Department, I want to thank our students and parents for their continued support of Mt Horeb Activities. The tremendous fan support that we receive from parents, students, and the community is recognized as some of the best around. Our students, coaches, and advisors appreciate the support that you show. In order to ensure that our events are orderly, safe, and enjoyable for all spectators, large and small, the Activities Department would like to remind our fans of the following expectations:
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
All middle school students must be seated with parents or designated Middle School student section; for football games, the middle school section is located on the north side of the stadium.
Students are not allowed to go into the visiting team section and are not allowed on the south hill. Please stay in your section and enjoy the game.
The south hill of the football stadium is reserved for younger ages and their families. Any students or kids sitting on that hill must be with an adult. Please respect this area so that families with small children can also enjoy the game.
No costumes or masks are allowed at sporting events. Students must follow the school dress-code.
No footballs, soccer balls, kick balls, etc...allowed at sporting events.
Pets/animals are not allowed past the ticket office.
Exhibit good sportsmanship: be respectful during the National Anthem, schools songs, player introductions, and be positive at all times when cheering.
Remember to represent Mt Horeb in a positive manner.
If Middle School students are showing inappropriate behavior, a parent will be called to take the student home.
Thank you and GO VIKINGS!
