Dear Families,

We hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend! It was a great weekend in Tekonsha, with the Class of 2023 Graduation on Sunday and the Tekonsha Memorial Day Parade and Graveside Ceremony on Monday. We are now heading into our final week of school!

Thank you so much for your support of our school all year long. We are ready for a summer break, but even more excited about what the 2023-24 school year has to offer at Tekonsha Schools! If you know a family that is looking for a small school that makes a big difference, please encourage them to enroll at Tekonsha!

Be sure to mark your calendar for the 2023-24 Open House on Monday, August 21, 2023 and the first day of school on Wednesday, August 23, 2023!

Summer Learning Opportunities for Elementary!

Over the summer, we want all students to have an opportunity to participate in learning experiences, to prevent what is commonly called "summer slide." All students in grades K-5 will be provided with a Think-Stretch summer skills workbook. This includes weekly reading, writing, math, and bonus activities that parents can do with their students. These workbooks will be sent home on Wednesday of this week! There is also a Parent Guide, to help all adults know best how to guide this summer learning. Parents do not need to sign up for this program.

We are also excited to announce that we are participating in a program called Kids Read Now, which will be sending books to your home every 10-12 days, for all students in grades K-5. Each book includes guided discussion questions to help increase family engagement. A bonus ninth book of beautifully illustrated creative writing prompts concludes the program so children can write their own stories! Parents do not need to sign up for this program.

Programming Requiring Registration

We are also happy to be bringing back Summer Enrichment - a daily summer program available by sign up only, for any current K-5 student. This includes academic programming Monday - Thursday, from 8:30 - 12:00 and BLAST fun field trips on Fridays. This is not a drop in program, only students that are registered in advance can participate. Transportation will be provided for students signed up for the entire week of programming. Free breakfast and lunch will be available to all students. A detailed informational sheet went home with all students last week, with a registration deadline of Wednesday, May 31. All information is also available below.

Summer Independent Credit Recovery for MS/HS

If your student needs to retake a class to help earn a credit in HS, or be prepared to be more successful next fall for MS, then we are offering online, independent summer credit recovery. Detailed information is listed below. All students need to be registered by Friday, June 9. Students that are recommended to do credit recovery received a personalized letter from Mrs. Tew last week to share with parents and a copy of the letter was mailed home. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Tew, by calling 517-767-4121.

8th Grade Visit to CACC

Tekonsha Middle School 8th graders enjoyed a visit to the Calhoun Area Career Center on Wednesday, May 24th. Students visited Law Enforcement, Collision Repair, and Culinary Arts. There was also a program fair where the kids could learn about all the programs offered. This was a wonderful way to get kids excited about the opportunities available in high school! Zoo Fun for K-2

Tekonsha Elementary Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students enjoyed discovering all of the animals and exhibits at the Binder Park Zoo for the class field trip on Thursday, May 25th. 4th Grader Wins Contest!

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department and Honor Credit Union sponsored an art contest for all 4th grade classrooms across the county. Students were tasked with drawing a design to represent the K-9 unit of the Sheriff's Department. The Honor Credit Union selected one winner from each classroom, and the winning design in the county will be placed on a t-shirt to help raise funds to get a new Calhoun County K-9! Brantley Peck's art was selected as the winning design from Tekonsha Elementary. He was presented with a $25 gift card from Honor Credit Union. Deputy Dave Winder and representatives from Honor Credit Union were on hand today to congratulate Brantley!
