CDS Middle School
Director's Newsletter
March 9th, 2018
From the Director
This week CDS Middle School held its Term 4 Assembly. We began by looking back at the wonderful experiences we've enjoyed so far this school year. We remembered those who have left CDS, and welcomed the many new students who've joined since Term 3 began.
Principal Shim gave a message on persisting in the face of challenge--sharing the stories of Olympic athletes Lee Sangwha and Japanese skater Kodaira Nao. There were musical performances, and many awards were handed out. The assembly concluded with information on Term 4 events including the Talent Show, KAIAC Basketball season, and Spring Co-curricular activities. You can view the full assembly presentation within the Newsletter.
This Saturday, our Table Tennis team, and Girls and Boys Volleyball teams will compete at SIS. After last week's Table Tennis and Boys Volleyball cancellations, our athletes are twice as ready for tomorrow's jamborees! Parents and friends are always encouraged to show up and cheer! Go Pheonix!
In closing, we are pleased this week to welcome 7 new students to our CDS community. We look forward to getting to know them and their families better in the coming months.

The Phoenix Feed is Back with Our Issue for Term 3!
The MS Newspaper CC has been working hard toward producing articles that are both original in content and informative to the student body. That being said, it is no easy task for our staff writers to continue researching, writing, and editing after their classes are done for the day, and thus should be commended for their excellent efforts that went into creating this issue.
We'll be back in Term 4 with more news, teacher profiles, wacky features, hilarious comics, and hopefully, a brand new section dedicated to sports!
Stay tuned!

Spring Co-curriculars (CCs) and After School Programs (ASPs)
Normally students sign up for CCs on Saturday mornings; however, we have several students competing that morning in various KAIAC athletic events. The Spring CC & ASP season begins officially on Monday, April 2nd following Spring Break. The Spring season will continue for the rest of the school year.
If you have any questions, please contact the MS Office. The full CC and ASPs will be available in next week's MS Newsletter.
7th & 8th Graders Experience SKYMUN V
The event was held on Saturday, March 3rd, at SFS and provided a great opportunity for students to practice their public speaking and collaboration skills, as well as a better understanding of how the United Nations works.
A number of CDS students were very active in the discussion of their committee issues and represented themselves well as our next generation of international leaders. Nice work, everyone!

Week 2: Music in our Community
Senior Project - Free Violin Lessons for G5 & G6
* Violins will be provided for as many students as possible, however, if your child can borrow a violin from a sibling or friend, that would be helpful.
