A MESSAGE FROM MRS. BOOTH
Dear Silver Springs Students, Parents, and Staff,
Rest, Relax, Rejuvenate! We are excited to continue with the idea of homework-free “Well-Being Breaks” for all of our major school holidays. We believe school breaks should be just that - a brief reprieve from school responsibilities like homework, special projects, planning, and grading. It is a time to reconnect with loved ones without the stress of school work creeping in.
Making sure that our students, staff, and families have the opportunity to completely detach themselves from school—physically and mentally—on the days they’re off is an important part of our commitment to honoring the whole person. (Leader in Me fans call this “Sharpening the Saw.”) In other words, we know our students and staff have lives outside of school, and guess what? We want them to enjoy those healthy, balanced lives!
Please note, I am planning on following this same advice, as a result, there will be no Eagle Express next week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please look for the next Eagle Express on Friday, December 1st. I hope each of you have a relaxing break full of family, fun and togetherness.
Sincerely,
Katie Booth
Principal

From our Student Lighthouse Team...
Senior Cheer
The Student Lighthouse Community Service Action team would like your help to spread some holiday cheer this season. We will be collecting donations of holiday cards or cards with kind messages as well as toiletries (like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, lotion, toothpaste etc.) to give to our local seniors living in nursing homes or adult foster care facilities. The project will run from November 28th-December 16th. The collection boxes will be near the front office. Thank you for helping us to spread some joy to our local seniors.
Toys for Tots
The Student Lighthouse Community Service Action Team is excited to announce an upcoming service project! Silver Springs Elementary will be an official collection site for the US Marine Toys for Tots 2022 campaign.
Please send in any new unwrapped toys to Silver Springs from Nov. 7-Dec. 9th. No stuffed animals, please. Keep this project in mind as you begin your holiday shopping!
We can’t wait to see our Silver Springs community synergize to make this holiday season a little brighter for some very needy children!

PTA TRIVIA… DID YOU KNOW??? There are over FIFTY ways our PTA provides support and enrichment, directly impacting your child’s education.
WHAT DOES THE PTA DO? Check out the Silver Springs PTA program plan for this year – it’s the master list of PTA events, activities, assemblies, staff support, products, and improvements for 2022-2023. From the Multicultural Fair, to the yearbook, to Kona Ice treat day, to spirit wear – we invest PTA funds, time, sweat, and energy into it all.
SO HOW DOES ALL THIS GET DONE? With YOUR help, of course!!
PTA programs and events only run when parents take the lead or volunteer.
🙋🏾 If you have very little time but can squeak out a few minutes here and there – we need you!
🙋🏼If you’re busy, but can lean in, even just a few hours – we need you!
🙋🏻Whether you’re creative, a great planner, tech savvy, or none of the above – we need you!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Are you new? Need a refresher on what committees do? Want to know some details before you sign up? Here’s the nitty gritty on over 25 different committees.
Ready to dive in? Sign up here! We have posted a Sign-Up Genius of all the volunteer openings we currently have. Whether you want to be a chairperson, serve on a committee, or volunteer only once in a while, we have a spot for you!
The PTA is looking for any and all who want to help. Due to bylaws and insurance reasons, any chairperson must be a PTA member. If you're not a member yet, it's super easy to sign up! If you want to join, but the $15 dues fee is a hardship for you, please contact us!

1. SKATING NIGHT
Mark your calendar for the next Silver Springs skating night: Monday, December 12, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Skatin Station. Cost is $10, including skate rental. All are welcome! See the PTA Events page for details.
2. BOOK CLUB
Pick up your copy of the book “Free-Range Kids” by Lenore Skenazy for the book club discussion happening on February 6. Mrs. Booth has 15 free copies available.
3. PTA MEETINGS
The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 9:00am at Silver Springs. (No meeting in December.) We work hard to schedule some meetings in the evenings, but also offer a few during the morning to accommodate different schedules. Check the schedule for the whole year at www.silverspringspta.com
Parents, we hope you can join us! If you have little kiddos at home, we’d love for them to join too! Ms. Silence will be our guest speaker, teaching us about Social Emotional Learning and Zones of Regulation – so the topic is perfect, whether you come with adults or your littles.
4. BIRTHDAY LUNCHES
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win! To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. Or, it’s even easier to sign up and donate online. On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat. You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth and birthday napkins. Book now to ensure you get your spot, even if it’s later in the year. Please book at least two weeks in advance to ensure our volunteers are available.
5. INVEST IN YOUR CHILD
What is Invest In Your Child? IIYC is the one, big, annual fundraiser that supports all the awesome PTA programs, events, and activities benefiting our school and community! Silver Springs PTA simply asks families to make a one-time donation, rather than bothering with door-to-door sales or other time-consuming efforts. No one is required to donate, and any amount is valued! To learn more about how these funds benefit our school, visit our “Invest In Your Child” page. You can donate online via MemberHub or by sending in the form to school, along with check or cash. Thank you!
6. JOIN THE PTA
All are welcome, whether you want to be involved hardly at all or a whole lot! Visit our Membership Page for all the details.
7. PTA WEBSITE IS YOUR ONE-STOP-SHOP! www.silverspringspta.com
Our new, and freshly-updated, website has all the info you need, from what we do, what events are coming up, how to get involved, and how to donate.
8. LET’S BE FRIENDS IRL AND ONLINE!
All Silver Springs families are invited to join our social media pages - you don’t have to be a member of the PTA to benefit from our updates, reminders, and helpful info. Facebook @SilverSpringsElementaryPTA

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 1 BE PROACTIVE
Each month we will send home a 7-Habits activity for students and families to do together. The activity will come home in Monday envelopes and are due at the end of the month.
Please send the completed activities back to school so we can proudly display them in your child's classroom.
November At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 1 Be Proactive
Activity: Circle of Control
Due Date: November 30th
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.

Reserved seating only, so get your tickets early!
"An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius. The small cast and unit set make this a perfect option for high schools or community theatres. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced crowd pleaser and an instant theatre patron favorite.”

Saturday November 19th 2pm & 7pm
Sunday November 20th @ 2pm

Infectious Disease Response to COVID
2022-2023
Students and staff that contract COVID should follow the Health Department recommendations and isolate for five days from the date where symptoms were present or from the date of their positive rapid or pcr test. Isolation includes waiting to return to school until the isolation period has ended. It is also recommended that students or staff should wear a mask for 5 days past their isolation period.
Parents should notify their child’s school of the absence reason so that teachers are aware of the student's absence period and our nurses can follow the health department’s infectious disease requirements. NPS School Nurses are available should you have any questions.

School Lunch Program
The Northville Public Schools provides a hot lunch program for interested students.
Families must PREORDER lunches for preschools and elementary students. Orders must be in by 8:30 am for preschool students and for elementary students to receive a lunch that day. The system will not allow you to order after the time listed above. For your convenience, meals can be preordered up to 30 days in advance. To avoid any issues, we recommend ordering the night before.
