Principal Notes
What a great week to be a STALLION!
We welcome you to come to the school and sit in your Stallions class for the day. You do not need to give a 24 hour advance. Just call the front office. You only need to have your drivers license and we will print you a temporary ID. You are a valued partner at NMS and your are always welcomed. We also take many field trips and we need volunteers from time to time. You are welcomed at NMS anytime!

Educator of the Month Educator of the Month
- Our educator of the month is.....Ashley Lowe
- This is Ashley's 6th year in education and she teaches 8th grade Math here at NMS. She said that she was called to do something greater than herself and impact the lives of children that may not have as many opportunities offered to them. She loves to travel the world with her loved ones, listen to music (especially PRINCE), and go to CrossFit at 5 AM. Her favorite guilty pleasures are Oreos and Wendy's strawberry lemonade. She is also an Aggie! Gig' E, Ags!
Student of the Month
- Our student of the month is.... Emanuel Scott
- Emanuel is in our Rice Owls Pod. He says that she admires his mom and dad because they are good to him and buy him clothes and his favorite snacks (Jolly Ranchers). At school he admires Mr. Bradley and Mr. O'Keeffe because they are the best and they keep him out of trouble. His favorite class is Theater Arts because they do open scenes, and those are the best! A good book that he has read recently read was Black Panther, because it is so exciting. His favorite music is R&B music and he loves football and basketball.He said if a book were to be named about her life, it would be titled... "The E. Scott Story!

English Language Arts Department:
6th Grade
This week in ELA, the 6th grade students are taking a Reading Assessment through our new program Reading Plus. Later in the week we will be starting our Non-fiction Unit. We will learn the SOAPSTone method that we use to analyze non-fiction, and we will compare narrative writing to expository writing.
7th Grade
This week in ELA ,the 7th grade students will review the writing process and learn how to write thesis statements and effective introductions.
8th Grade
- This week in ELA, the 8th grade students will focus on poetic elements and higher level inference skills by reading our first novel titled Make Lemonade.
CCR
- 7th Grade- The students will start a lesson on thesis statements and learn the difference between passive and active voice.
- 8th Grade- The students are working on a Career Cluster project.

This is the last week for their Taxonomy unit as they identify basic characteristics and classification of living things.
7th Grade
Students will start learning about the body systems through a PBL project.
8th Grade
- Students will finish learning about the periodic table and begin learning about chemical formulas.
Social Studies Department:
U.S. History
Students will be learning about the causes of the American Revolution.
Texas History
Students will be studying Spanish and English settlements in North America.
World Cultures
We will be studying the United States: government, economy, culture, and its role in the world.
Electives
Another GREAT week in the Elective Department!
Band
We still have some 6th grade band students who do not have an instrument . Those students need to get what they need as soon as possible.
Students need to pay their band fees ASAP so that they can get their band shirt when they come in.
CAP (Civil Air Patrol)
Students will wear the CAP blue uniform on Thursday (Oct 4, 2018). This is required part of the class and it is for a grade. Please understand that students have been asked to stay after school to receive their uniform. The CAP instructors will continue to stay after school on Mon, Tue, and Wed to help with uniform issues.
The first Leadership Lock-In will be on Friday (Oct 5, 2018) from 4:05pm - 11:30pm. Permission slips and $9 paywere sent home last week. If you need another copy or have any questions about the activity, please do not hesitate to contact your child's CAP instructor at 281-436-2864.
Come out and support the NMS football teams on Mon and Tue at 5:00pm. We (CAP) operate a concession stand to raise money for our various field trips and summer/winter encampments. The funds we generate are vital to our operation.
Orchestra
Beginning orchestras are learning to stop strings on the fingerboard to expand our pitches.
Performing orchestras are continuing to work on new music and prepare for Region Orchestra Auditions.
All classes are continuing to work on musicianship and disciplined good music practice and rehearsal habits.

Robotics
Mr. Peace's Robotics class is developing a device to "kick" a ball. This project incorporates the use of the Touch Sensor and multiple large motors.
