SPOTLIGHT ON..... California State University, Northridge
CSU Northridge (CSUN) is a member of the 23 CSU campus system in the state of California, located in Northridge, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, in close proximity to Royal High School and downtown Los Angeles. It is considered the local Cal State campus for Royal High School students, along with CSU Channel Islands. With over 38,000 students, CSUN is one of the largest universities in the nation, and home to a vibrant, bustling, dynamic community of learners. A liberal arts institution with nine colleges and more than 2,000 faculty members, CSUN also specializes in many technological and professional fields. Out of CSUN’s 147 majors, those with the highest enrollment are Psychology, Cinema & Television Arts, and Criminology & Justice. CSUN’s Business, Engineering and Film programs are consistently ranked as some of the best in the country. Despite its size, CSUN maintains a 24:1 student-faculty ratio, and 81% of CSUN freshmen return for their sophomore year.
CSUN offers more than 300 clubs and organizations, including 38 fraternities and sororities on campus. CSUN’s mascot is the Matador, and students proudly sport their red, silver, and black school colors. CSUN offers on-campus housing that include apartments, housing for families, suites, dining halls, game rooms, swimming pools, tutoring centers and sport courts. CSUN’s athletic teams are part of the highly competitive Division 1 level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association; 15 teams are members of the Big West Conference and three play in the Mountain Pacific Conference. CSUN’s list of notable alumni is long, including among them singer-songwriter Andy Grammer, Olympic athlete Florence Griffith-Joyner, model and actress Eva Mendes, actress Alyson Hannigan, singer and performer Paula Abdul, film producer and actors Richard Dreyfuss and Cheech Marin. CSUN alumni become leaders in their fieldsnd communities, working for companies including Amazon, Amgen, Apple, Bank of America, CSUN, Fox Sports, Kaiser Permanente, MGM Studios, Warner Brothers Entertainment, Google, LAUSD, Microsoft, NBC, Netflix, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, and Northrop Grumman.
Like all California State University campuses, CSUN does not require standardized test scores for
admission. To be eligible for a Cal State University, students must have completed their A-G requirements with grades of C or better, and have a 2.5 GPA from grade 10-11 in those courses.
Students should complete their 2023-24 FAFSA to become eligible for maximum financial aid opportunities that help offset the total cost of attending a CSU. Find more information about CSUN here: https://www.csun.edu/.
For those interested in viewing the School Comprehensive Safety Plan, it is available at the front desk. Please call Alicia Pelletier at extension 2730, to make an appointment.
