Senate Bill 560-Emergent Bilingual Strategic Plan
SB 560 provides a blueprint for support needed to bring intentionality and focus to the continued increase of emergent bilingual students. TEA's goal is to ensure that schools and staff are properly equipped to support EB students. As of now, the components of the strategic plan will be finalized during the 88th legislative session. More to come!
Mid-Year Best Practices
Middle of Academic School Year Best Practices
Take some time to revisit with teachers what the needs of their EB families and students are. This will ensure that you are on track with providing parent, family, and community engagement events for your EB parents, families, and students. You may use the Planning Tools for engagement events to guide you in this process.

NEW! Practice Plays!
Moving forward, I will be including a quick high leverage practice for teachers to implement in their instruction for academic and language learning! The more students "practice" a skill, the better they can perform in the classroom!
Practice Play - Golden Lines
This activity will get students to think, write, and discuss their reading. Students . . .
- read a paragraph or a text
- identify a "golden line" - a sentence that is surprising, descriptive, thought-provoking , meaningful, etc.
- students can copy this "golden line" onto a piece of paper and write why they chose it.
- you can also ask students to draw a visual representation of their "golden line"
- students share their "golden lines" with a partner, small group, or as a class
- you can also post on a wall or anchor chart
