Congratulations Class of 2021
UPDATES:
Second Semester:
All students should report to NSTEP at 9:00am on Monday, January 25th. (In case you need a reminder, NSTEP lists can be found here.)
The schedule will only be altered on Monday to reflect a 20 minute NSTEP first thing in the morning. Although our policies have not changed from last semester, our team wants to encourage ALL students to turn their cameras on during live instruction this semester.
In Athletics:
JV Basketball defeated Northwood last Tuesday and are playing at Chapel Hill tonight. Good luck!
Soccer and Lacrosse games start next week!
There will be a district-wide rising 9th grade parent night on January 26th at 6pm. Anyone interested in learning more should sign up here.
ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
$10,000 SECU People Helping People Scholarship
Northern can nominate 2 students; apply using this Google Form by January 25th to be considered. Students must:
· either be a SECU member or be eligible for membership through a parent/guardian
· have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA
· be accepted to attend one of the 16 UNC system universities
$500 Moving Forward Scholarship
The application is due April 31, 2021 or when we reach our max number of applicants, whichever comes first.
Students must:
· have a minimum 2.5 GPA
· be accepted into an accredited HBCU college or university
Recent high school graduates in Durham County can receive up to $1,000 each year for two years at Durham Technical Community College. To be eligible, students must enroll in at least six credit hours in a semester immediately after high school. Disbursements are made in $500 payments per semester. (Learn more here.)
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing Gates Millennium Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation created the Dell Scholars program with the understanding that it takes more than financial help to support students to college graduation. From the start, Dell Scholars was designed as a college completion program that offers support services that go beyond a scholarship check. (Learn more here.)
The Ron Brown Scholar Program provides young African-Americans scholars with the financial resources to attend colleges. Recipients are each awarded $40,000 ($10,000 per year for 4 years toward educational expenses), that may be used at the college or university of their choice. (Learn more here.)
The Levine Scholars Program seeks outstanding high school seniors who are eager to embark on a transformative college experience. This program is intended for students applying for freshman enrollment at UNC Charlotte in an undergraduate program for the fall term immediately following their high school graduation. The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. (Learn more here)
The UNCG Guarantee is a need & merit-based program that helps incoming undergraduate students, from North Carolina, graduate with little to no debt while providing comprehensive support services, co-curricular cohort experiences, mentoring and so much more. This program is intended for students who want to attend UNC-G. (Learn more here)
High School Navigator: High School Navigator is a one-stop search tool for finding pre-college summer programs or internships or volunteer opportunities for high school students. HS Navigator will help you to filter your search experience based on your diverse subject interest, location, preferred university, program duration, budget, and more. National Association of Black Accountants: The National Association of Black Accountants is hosting a residency program for 20 minority students who are interested in learning more about accounting at one UNCC campus from June 13-18. Students will be exposed to corporate industries in Charlotte and learn more about accounting, college, business etiquette, professional development, and financial literacy from faculty at UNCC as well as professionals from different organizations. It is a FREE program and one of the 20 students who are invited to attend receive a $500 scholarship. For the application and additional information, contact acap@nabacharlotte.org.
