"Black-Out" the Area Tournament

HG is continuing the "BLACK-OUT" in our "#Trojans" t-shirts after last night's Lady Trojan victory! Now it's the guys' turn! Let's "Black-Out" Sparkman and take on the Jets again! The Varsity Boys team will play in the Area Tournament at Sparkman High School against the James Clemens Jets tonight at 6:00 PM. The tees are just $10.00 and good for all the games! There's a very limited supply! They're on sale in the lunchroom!

E-Learning

E-Learning Day is taking place tomorrow! It is half-day for students and a full day for teachers! You can choose to do your E-learning assignment from home! Also, there will be a helpdesk for students. The student helpdesk will be available from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Students may call 256-851-4555 during that time to get assistance logging into Canvas and Google.

Trojan Soccer

Get ready for another round of Trojan Soccer! The Trojans will take on the Madison County Tigers! The game kicks off today at 5:00 PM with Varsity Boys and then again 7:00 PM with Varsity Girls!

Balfour Cap and Gown Orders

Balfour will be at the HGHS Lunchroom next Wednesday and Thursday to collect graduation fees for caps and gowns from seniors.

Mardi Gras

Lot's of fun in the French hall! In class, we learned about the history of Mardi Gras. We had King Cake and these students found the baby in the cake. French Club Members got Mardi Gras beads and tattoos. Later this month, the French Club gets ready for a cajun feast at the Po Boy Factory!

Help Support the Robotics Club

Attention Seniors

Sheri Mason from Motlow College and Miss Motlow College, Clancey O' Dell will be here Wednesday, February, 17th at 10:00 AM in the HGHS lunchroom to discuss scholarship opportunities with our Seniors.

AOD Federal Credit Union Scholarship

AOD Federal Credit Union has established a scholarship to recognize and reward young AOD members for their scholastic achievements upon graduation from high school. AOD will award fifteen scholarships and up to three of which may be awarded to an individual with special needs valued at $1,000 each to graduating seniors who have been members of AOD for a minimum of one year. Additionally, in of honor of Ken Reid, Board Member Emeritus, the Mr. Ken Reid Engineering Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to one student who is pursuing an engineering degree. Scholarships will be paid at the beginning of the student's freshman year and will be issued directly to the college, university, community college, technical or vocational school of the student's choice. Applicants will be required to submit the application package to AOD. Click here for the application, and it must be returned to AOD no later than February 15th. Mail applications to AOD Federal Credit Union, Attn: Scholarships P.O. Box 608 Bynum, AL 36253. The 2016 scholarship application deadline for AOD Federal Credit Union is approaching. The deadline is coming up February 15, 2016. The 2016 Scholarship Application is available on their website at www.aodfcu.com.

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award

Are you a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who exhibits leadership qualities as a volunteer in your community or school? Who sees challenges instead of obstacles? Hope instead of despair? Then you may be eligible for a Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award which includes recognition at a luncheon and a monetary award of $300. The deadline for all submittals is March 4, 2016. Please see attached details. Applications will be judged and notification given to all applicants by March 10, 2016. The winner will be honored at a luncheon on March 30, 2016.

Students Pursuing Education in a Building Industry Related Field

Attached you will find information on scholarship applications for any student pursuing an education in a building industry related field. Eligible students include those attending two-year community colleges, four-year colleges or universities or state accredited to tech schools. Building industry related fields include architecture, drafting, building science, civil engineering, or other housing industry vocations such as heating and air conditioning, electrical, masonry, carpentry, etc. Students must be residents of Madison County or contiguous counties. Please pass along this information to any student that may qualify and be interested in applying for a scholarship through our Foundation. The deadline is March 18th.

University of North Alabama

The University of North Alabama is having Lionette auditions! They are looking for talented young women with a dance background. The Lionettes perform with the marching band at all football games, pep rallies, parades, and exhibitions. Since 1956, the Lionettes have upheld a strong tradition of excellence and professionalism. Hundreds of young ladies have participated over the decades dedicating their time and talents to this prestigious organization.The clinic dates are Friday (evening), March 11, 2016, and Saturday (morning), March 12, 2016, with the auditions that afternoon. Enclosed is the tryout information the girls will need and forms they must have completed and mailed before the deadline of March 7, 2016.

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.


Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Black Box Theatre. All students are welcome to attend.

Recycle:
Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy.
