Dear ELC Families,
The temperature is beginning to drop, the days are getting shorter, Fall has officially started......and we are halfway through the first quarter of school! Time is marching on.
The children have all settled into the routine of school and, with the exception of one covid interruption, things are going very smoothly. The children are growing more confident by the day. They are working together, learning new skills and building their classroom communities. Thank you ALL for continuing to send your children to school ready to learn and keeping them home when they are not feeling well sets them up for success and we appreciate it.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Gail

September Family Focus: Learning Through Discovery
Children in the ELC learn at their own, individual pace. They choose their daily activities - from hundreds of possibilities available to them on the curricular area shelves. The children choose their work and and as they work, they naturally build their concentration, self-motivation and a desire to "figure it out."
Children in our Montessori classrooms have the power to ask for help when they need it, as opposed to an adult telling the child why he or she needs help. The children begin to realize they have the intelligence and the ability to do things for themselves. This empowers them and gives them a boost of confidence. Learning becomes an exciting process of learning through discovery - leading the children to a love of learning,.
The ELC classrooms are set up for children to learn at their own rate. A variety of materials, lessons and activities are available that keep the children's age, temperment, drive and interests in mind. The teachers carefully and thoughtfully prepare the environment with developmentally appropriate, stimulating and challenging materials. The children are free to move about and to choose their own work and activities. They may work alone, in small groups or with a teacher. Because the Montessori environment helps each child develop self control, the classroom is a peaceful yet busy place where the children move in and orderly fashion and at their own pace.
Take a look at our Montessori Moments for some examples of how your children are learning through discovery in the ELC.

Strategic Planning Survey – September 17, 2021
Hello FSDB Community,
FSDB is now in its last year of our current Strategic Planning cycle which started in 2017. For the last five years, we have focused our attention on five priority goals and four secondary goals striving for ongoing continuous improvement.
In preparation for the 2022-2027 FSDB Strategic Plan, we are asking feedback from staff members, parents, students, community members and business partners. As our stakeholders, your input is very important.
The information collected will be used to inform the Strategic Leadership Team as we develop our next five-year plan. Please take a few minutes to answer four very important questions by Friday, October 1, 2021.
Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021-2022StrategicPlanningSurvey
What does our school do well? What advantages does our school have?
What disadvantages does our school have? What could be improved at FSDB?
What is missing from the school that might be important to us? What are the unique elements in our community that might provide opportunities? (These would be external factors that may contribute to FSDB and build on our strengths.)
What obstacles do we face that negatively affect our school? What challenges does our school face?
Thank you for your time and thoughtful responses. Together we can continue to improve to be the very best choice for our students, families, and staff members.
Sincerely,
Tracie C. Snow
