Willie Brown Academy Insider

March 20, 2020

What an interesting week we have had! Although we are not on campus, teachers have been working hard to prepare distance learning activities for our scholars. Please know that we all understand that our families have various needs regarding work schedules, technology access, etc. We will be supporting you in whatever ways we can. Please communicate with your child's teachers and share any needs that you have....teaching/learning support, social/emotional, or even support with meeting physical needs. We are here to help!

I am particularly missing all the smiles, high-fives, "micro"waves, and hugs that I get from WBA scholars every day. Our kids are the "reason" for our business and not seeing them every day is hard for us all! Please give your kiddo a big hug from us!

Hoping to see everyone back sooner than later. In the meantime, stay healthy!

Medications at school?

If your scholar needs a prescription that was left at school, please contact our campus Nurse Jill Ricketts via email to initiate the process and to get a time scheduled for pick up. jillricketts@misdmail.org

Free Lunch Offer

During the COVID-19 shutdown, free healthy and delicious meals will be available to all children ages 18 years or younger and special needs adults through age 21 at the following distribution sites:

The packaged meals will be distributed from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday through Friday in a drive-thru fashion. No one will need to exit their personal vehicles, but all participating children must be in the vehicle. Children do not have to be a student at the campus to qualify for the meal, and families can visit any of the participating sites.

Meals will consist of whole grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables and lowfat milk. We will include a lot of the kids’ favorites (yogurt boxes, pizza packs, chicken tenders, etc.).

Distance Learning

The Curriculum and Instruction Department is spending the week of March 16 building resources for principals and teachers that will keep the educational experience in motion for our students. Those resources will be shared with teachers by the end of this week, and teachers will reach out to students and parents by Monday, March 23. We are all working hard to keep the learning process going for our scholars even while we are not together physically. Look for more information from your teacher very soon! Teachers are keeping working hours (from home) M-F 8:00-4:00 to support you in any way.
