Simmons Elementary School
October 6, 2021
In our constant effort to improve the health and safety plan for our school community, we have reorganized the cafeteria to allow greater social distancing between students, while maintaining opportunities for peer interaction during the lunch period. We now use the entire cafeteria for each grade level. Students continue to sit with their homeroom classmates in the same place each day. We have added many tables to the layout and have reduced seating capacity at every table. We appreciate the children's flexibility with the new seating plan as they have quickly adjusted.
Bridges in Mathematics: An Overview of Our New K-5 Math Resources for Families
On Monday Evening, October 11, from 7:00-8:00 PM, there will be a virtual presentation about the new elementary math resources, Bridges in Mathematics. Director of Curriculum David Weber and Instructional Coach Christine Jenkins will provide an overview of the rationale behind the move to new resources, an overview of the common practices in math classes, preview a few common ways to model mathematics used in the lessons, and show families how to access resources online to support their students’ learning at home. The link to join the session will be shared soon, posted on the curriculum department web page, and advertised via social media . This presentation will be recorded and put on the curriculum department website for later viewing.
