One School One Book: Week 3

Speechless By Adam Schmitt
This year's title was selected by votes from our staff, students, and families, and thank you to those who participated in this selection!
This Week:
All students and staff will be digging in and reading Chapters 5, 6, and 7. All students received a copy of the book to keep and they also have access to digital recordings of each chapter through the One School One Book Schoology Page. Parents, have your student show and tell you about the book and the digital recordings. There will be an all school trivia contest going on throughout the week and we will have a special guest visitor on Friday! READERS are LEADERS!! Promote youth literacy. Students can participate in weekly Trivia contests posted on the One School One Book Schoology page.

Illinois 5 Essential Survey
This is a reminder to participate in the parent survey supplement, part of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey administration. We guarantee that survey responses will never be connected to the identity of you or your child. School reports will only present aggregated information of how parents and students responded as a whole.
A parent survey report will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey. While the parent data will not be made public, the parent report will be made available to Plano CUSD #88 and will enable them to make considerations based on the responses given by Plano Middle School parents. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Again, your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
Teachers and 4th through 12th graders throughout Illinois are taking the teacher and student 5Essentials Survey. School-level 5Essentials Reports will be generated if teachers and/or students meet their 50 percent response-rate thresholds. These research-based reports will be sent to schools and districts in March and will also be included in the State School Report Card, released statewide in the fall.
Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to take the parent survey.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.

Inclement Weather Days
In December the Plano District office shared with you their intentions to utilize E-Learning days in the case that inclement weather should make it not possible to attend school in-person. Please click here for District newsletter.
Should this happen Plano MS students and staff will follow the below schedule:
- from 8am - 9am Teachers will post lessons, learning activities, and zoom link for students to access their help. This information will be accessible through class Schoology pages.
- 9am. All students should log-in to their Advisory class for attendance and to receive instructions for the day. Students will log-in through zoom link available in the Advisory Schoology page.
- 9:30am - 12pm teachers will be available through zoom link and/or email to answer questions and provide instruction related to posted lessons.
- 1 - 3 Teachers will be available through email to answer students questions related to assignments.
Keeping Up with Schoolwork When Absent
To stay up to date with class work, students should check Schoology pages daily to access assignments, lessons, and activities during their absence. Students should contact teachers directly via email with any questions related to school work. Teachers are happy to schedule zoom sessions with students as needed to explain and answer any questions students may have. This can be arranged by having the students reach out to their teacher through email to request to schedule a time to zoom.
Much of the learning takes place in the classroom through class activities. The guidelines requiring extended absences are making it more important than ever to utilize electronic communication for students to stay in touch with teachers while absent for extended periods. 3rd quarter started on January 4th. It is important for students' success to get off to a strong start each grading period. Please remind your student to be in contact with their teachers using any of the previously mentioned strategies during extended absences.
Parents can view all students assignments, grades, and missing assignments by accessing classes through Schoology. If you have not already done so you can set up you account by following directions here. When it asks you to enter the "code" you can get your code by contacting your students advisory teacher or calling the school at 630-552-3608.
