Newsletter Communication for August 27, 2021
Our Starside Mission:
Through a collaborative learning community we will build a foundation upon which all students can develop essential academic and life skills.
It has been another busy week around Starside. Students are starting to get in a groove and learning is in full swing. With that in mind I wanted to tell you about some exciting news. One of our school goals is to expose our students to as many career opportunities as possible even starting at the primary level. This also aligns with the Kansas Career Cluster standard. Our goal is to help students realize and build upon their own individual interests and strengths. To help us with this Starside has partnered with the World of Work Company. They are committed to helping students grow and investigate different career paths. We look forward to watching our students explore these new possibilities as this school year progresses!
I hope you all have a restful, fantastic weekend!
Make Plans Now
The Board of Education approved three (3) delayed start days for the 2021-22 school year. The first 2-hour delayed start date is Wednesday, September 22. Students will begin school two (2) hours later than normal. Students will need to be at school for their first class at 10:45 a.m.
Students who ride the bus will simply add two hours to their normal pick-up time. For example, if the normal pick-up time is 8:05 a.m., the pick-up time on September 22 would be 10:05 a.m.
Teachers and support staff will report for duty at their normal time on September 22. Schools will utilize time with staff for needed training and professional development. The other two dates for 2-hour delayed starts will be October 10 and April 6.

District Music Program Guidelines
The school district’s elementary music team would like to share information about this year's music performances to help with planning. In an effort to return to as much normalcy as possible, while prioritizing student and staff safety, we will use the following guidelines:
- · We will prepare grade-level programs in music class and combine those classes in the gym for their scheduled performances.
- · In lieu of evening performances, a school-day performance will be recorded and shared with families.
- · In-person audiences will be limited to staff and students.
- · Information about the 4th and 5th-grade choir will be shared with families soon.
- · Procedures for choir performances will be the same as grade-level programs.
Thank you so much for your support of your child's music education in USD 232.

Dear 4th and 5th Grade Students and Family,
The choir is a great avenue of musical performance for our 4th and 5th graders and is open to any 4th or 5th grader who chooses to join. My goals for choir include rehearsing choral music for fun as well as for the improvement of vocal techniques (including matching pitch, singing with a pleasant tone, singing in harmony, etc.).
The attached choir handbook includes information that you will need during the school year. Please read the entire handbook as important dates and policies are included. If you want to improve your singing and you enjoy performing with a group, then the choir is what you need.
If you are interested, please read the handbook, and sign up to join! Let’s have fun, make beautiful music, and make some new friends.

Dear Starside Parents/Guardians,
Starside would like to continue the tradition of recognizing students for their community service efforts. Community service hours should be tallied from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Attached you will find a form for tracking service hours. All service hours are due no later than Monday, April 4th this school year.
Students who achieve between 10 and 25 hours will be recognized with a Starside Community Service certificate. Students who earn 26 hours will receive a bronze pin and certificate from the President’s Volunteer Service Award organization. Students who achieve 50 hours will receive a silver pin, and the gold pin is awarded for 75 hours.
The definition of service under the President’s Volunteer Service Award program includes any activity that has a significant impact on meeting the needs of the community. Services that are paid for or carried out for a family member do not count towards service hours. Some examples of services include helping with community organizations, school-based programs, scouting service or any effort to help others.
Students are responsible for keeping track of ALL of their community service hours including hours completed at Starside such as Comet Guard. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at Starside at 667-6270 ext. 2196 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support.
