Principal Lewis' Sunday Update for the week of 8/19/19
I had an incredible week getting to meet our new families and welcome back all of our returning SMEers. We have over 700 students which means a lot of smiles and hugs every day!
Thank you to those families who have taken the time to sign up for our PTA membership and those that have donated to our AFB. The links are still available on our school website at sme.pusd.us if you would like to donate.
Here are the announcements for this week:
Monday, August 19th at 7:50am, students in grades 1st-5th will meet their teachers up on the playground. We will have our first BRAVO assembly, starting at 7:50am. Our BRAVO assemblies are a time where we come together to learn a school dance, song, and hear how important it is to work together to be brilliant, creative, strong, and true-hearted.
Tuesday, August 20th at 1:30pm, we will have another volunteer orientation in the auditorium. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and did not have a badge last year, and did not attend the orientation on the first day of school, please join us for a required 30 min orientation.
Wednesday, August 21st at 8:00am, we will have a third volunteer orientation in the auditorium. Each orientation is the same, so you are only required to come to one.
Thursday, August 22nd is Back To School Night (BTSN). Students will have an early dismissal at 11:30am, and parents are invited back to school from 5:30-7:00pm. PTA will be providing child care in the cafeteria from 5:15pm-7:15pm for any kiddo that is potty-trained. Please keep your eye out for the flyer that will be coming home in this week’s Wednesday Folder with specifics.
Apply For Lunch Reminder
Remember to complete applications for school meal benefits as soon as possible. Families may apply online at www.myschoolapps.com Please complete one application per family and be sure to list all adults and children living in your home. Remember, you must apply for meal benefits each year. It is important that all families fill out an application, even if you chose to leave your income total blank, due to knowing you don’t qualify for free lunch, so SME can receive money from the state. If you have any particular questions, please speak to Ms. Rose or Ms. Petra in the cafeteria.
Student Safety Reminder
Thank you for keeping our students safe by following our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures. Here are a few reminders:
- For vehicles, morning drop off is on Auburn Avenue and afternoon pick-up is on Highland Avenue in front of the school. School vans and busses take priority.
- Please be sure to use designated cross-walks to cross the street.
- There is no student drop off in the staff parking lot, and students should not walk through the staff parking lot, even if escorted by an adult.
- Please do not block neighbor’s driveways, even for a few minutes.
Mindfulness and Calm Room Information
I hope that you received the flyer about our 5 minutes of Mindfulness at SME. I also wanted to say thank you to the many people who have donated supplies to our Calm Room. We still need a few things such as blankets, pillows, and baskets to store supplies. A complete list of needs for both the Calm Room and the STEAM lab are attached in the SMORE.
For more event information, please be sure to visit our school website at sme.pusd.us
We are excited to see all of our student’s tomorrow morning at SME where we launch our journey of nurturing learners, and growing leaders.
