Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Last Sunday’s Walk for Water was a huge triumph! Thank you to all our students, parents, community members, teachers and staff who participated. The last I looked, our community has raised over 12K (and there is still time left to donate if you wish), which means we will fund the repair of 12 wells to change the lives of others in 12 communities in South Sudan. WOW! The most amazing part of this project is how invested our students were in its success. They have illustrated that we can all make a positive impact on our world. I could not be more proud of them and inspired by them. Additionally, this week we received photos of the well built by last year’s efforts, which are included in this week’s photo montage. “Webb Bridge Middle School Alpharetta, GA” is written on the well. Pretty cool!
Additionally, last weekend’s musical was outstanding! I hope you were able to attend one of the shows because our students are super stars. I was amazed at their voices, acting, and dancing, and the set was wonderful. Well done!
This week our 6th graders enjoyed an inhouse field trip about Australia, which they are studying in Social Studies. Didgeridoo Down Under was highly entertaining and educational, and our students laughed, gasped, and learned so much about the continent. Our 6th grade band and orchestra hosted their Spring Concert last night, and we were all astounded by the musical development of the groups. I simply cannot believe these students started playing their instruments less than seven months ago. Growth is a beautiful thing! Our chorus students spent today performing at their yearly large group performance evaluation. I know they impressed their judges.
Lastly, to our 6th and 7th grade parents - Do not forget to submit any changes to your students’ course requests for next year by this evening:

Have a wonderful weekend, Jaguars!

Exciting Well Update from South Sudan!
Dear Webb Bridge Middle School,
I am thrilled to inform you that the well you and your students sponsored has been drilled! Attached you will find a letter with information about your well along with photos taken this drilling season.
We hope you are as inspired by this as we are. Thanks to you, a village in South Sudan now has access to clean water. Without water, life cannot sustain itself. Thank you for watering the seeds of change in South Sudan. Your generosity will provide countless opportunities for communities in South Sudan!
Kind regards,
Cheri Crist

6th Grade Cultural Kalediscope Field Trip Fernbank Planetarium March 8, 2023
A visit to the Fernbank Planetarium!
The planetarium is the third largest in the country and had recently been refitted with a 4K laser driven projection system. Students will also explore the exhibits, including the actual Apollo six capsule, a copy of the space suit worn by Neil Armstrong and meteorites, many of which landed in Georgia.
PLEASE NOTE – this is the Fernbank Science Center, not to be confused with Fernbank Museum of Natural History!
Impact Earth teaches about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets. The film shows dramatically the effects of the Chixulub and Tungusta events, plus the Pallasite impact that resulted in the Brenham meteorite fall. Impact Earth describes ways that asteroid hunters seek new objects in the solar system and how ground penetrating radar is used to find meteorites that have survived to the Earth’s surface. Narrated by astronaut Tom Jones, the show also discusses ways that humans might try to deflect an asteroid or comet that is on a collision course with Earth.

8th Grade Parents- Save the Date! Bridging Ceremony
Week of 2-27
This week the students learned about conflict resolution and the importance of it.
The students learned that conflict resolution is a process for settling disagreements between people. It can be a conflict between a teacher, a friend or even a family member.
The reason why conflict resolution is important is because . . .
Small issues don’t turn into bigger issues
It creates a safe learning environment
It also helps to continue the learning in the classroom
The person who is having the conflict can’t think of anything else because he/she is upset and angry.
Next week we will discuss some conflict resolution strategies.

Front Office volunteers:
Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
To learn more about this accomplishment or to support our PTA during the Fall Membership Drive, visit wbmspta.org.
