LVISD…Uncompromising Excellence, Unlimited Possibilities!
SAFETY DIRECTOR'S CORNER
You can connect with us on our Twitter page @safebears where we will send out mass communication reminders, safety and crisis communication updates, and great things that our staff and students are doing to keep our district SAFE.
The overall goal of the LVISD safety program is to protect lives, mitigate the effects of a disaster, be prepared to respond to emergencies promptly and properly to restore normal services as quickly as possible.
With this monthly newsletter and @safebears, I will be providing information and safety tips throughout the year.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at 830-779-6600 EXT. 2259 or my email michael.duffek@lvisd.org

HOW DANGEROUS ARE OUR SCHOOLS?
Schools are not dangerous places. The perception that schools are dangerous is a misconception generated by a series of extreme, high profile cases that are not representative of most schools. In fact, very few serious violent crimes take place at school. From the standpoint of violent crimes or accidents, students are safer at school than at home. Moreover, schools have become even safer in recent decades.
Schools are safe, but they are not crime-free and we have an obligation to keep them as safe as possible. To keep schools safe, it is important to recognize what kinds of crimes are likely or unlikely to occur and to base decisions on facts rather than fears. If we speak up when we hear or see something, that is how we keep schools safe.
SCHOOL SAFETY MYTH - SCHOOL VIOLENCE IS INCREASING
On top of that schools are increasing safety and security measures every day.
WHAT IS ALICE
Students and staff at LVISD will be trained in ALICE. In the event of an active shooter, our students and staff will have the skills to survive an active shooter event by any means necessary.
ALICE can be used anywhere (movies, stores, malls). Please have these conversations as a family and if you would like more information please contact me.
