VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - Caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We apologise for having to cancel the 'Meet the teacher evening' this week. We felt, that with our current Covid climate, that it was best to keep everyone safe. We are looking forward to catching up at learning conferences later in the term. You will have received a powerpoint or a letter from your child's teacher introducing themselves through the 'Seesaw' app. Seesaw is going to continue to be a valuable tool for all communication as this term goes on.
This week we awarded our Senior school leaders for Term 1 and 2 of 2022. This is a massive role and we had so many great applications! We have decided to have 3 'Class Reps' from each senior room this first half of year, as the pool of senior leaders was amazing. Ka mau te wehi team!
We also had our first Principal awards. It is sad that we can not have a whole school assembly currently to acknowledged these learners. However, we still acknowledge our Paetoki and Huatoki learners today and we will acknowledge our Taranaki team kids on Monday. See the Principal awards below.
Building work continues to take over the senior side. We have begun to see some traction with the decking project and this looks great. It will be a massive asset to the classroom spaces once completed.
The Hall is almost finished being painted (inside and out) and the roof has been replaced - it looks like a brand new building! We can not wait to be able to use it again!
The roofing project continues as we move on to Block C (Rooms, 9, 10, 11, 12, the Library and walkways) this will be completed over the next few weeks.
We continue to focus this term on being 'inclusive'. This is one of our 5 school values. At Vogeltown we have 344 learners and 35 staff, all working together each day - we treat each other as family and that is what makes this place special.
Of our 344 learners, we have 19 different cultures - that is amazing! You will notice each day we change our school flag to represent these 19 cultures. We really are an inclusive kura!
Next week we will be sharing some writing and some of the awesome classroom work that our leaners have already been doing - you will be amazed!
Aroha nui, Mr O

COVID-19 - 'RED' SAFETY PLAN FOR VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
As we did last year, we will continue to follow guidance from the Ministries of Health & Education. Current protocols are around good hygiene and everyone consciously using the Covid Tracer App / QR codes at entrance points to the school please.
Our biggest priority is to keep the staff, students and community safe from the threat of Covid. The new strain, Omicron, seems to be more transmissible and the symptoms are even more like the flu. If you or your child(ren) do get sick with flu like symptoms, please stay home, get tested and let us know.
The biggest change for the 'Red light setting;' this year is the addition of Y4, Y5 and Y6 learners and teachers having to wear masks. If you have an exemption for your child please let us me know.
Below I have added our 'Red setting protocols' at Vogeltown School. These are in poster form in each classroom. This was also emailed out and attached to our Facebook page last week. If you have not done so already, please have a read.

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
3) We sent home a 'communication sheet' last week - please send these back to school asap so we can update our records. Or, if you are very digital savvy, email the school - office@vogeltown.school.nz. Thanks to all those who already have! Tu meke!!
Thanks whanau
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in.
Enjoy your weekend, take care in this wet weather and new cyclone!
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
