Mrs. Patsy Grue

Mrs. Grue has been teaching at RSPS for 22 years.


Mrs. Grue chose to share a heartwarming experience that occurred when we were all home distance learning:


On Earth Day last spring I brought some "peace pole" stones home from school to use in a video for the RSPS Facebook page. I sat them around the base of a tree in my front yard. Later in the afternoon a few were missing but a little gnome was nestled against the tree. When I went for a walk that evening I found little painted stones all around the neighborhood at the base of trees and mailboxes. All summer long children went for walks with their families racing from tree to tree to admire and add new stones to the neighborhood landscape.


One thing we experienced during distance learning sessions last spring was how seeing pets during Zoom meetings boosted our morale. The pictures above show seventh grade learning to use photo editing applications in Technology class. Students are using multistep photo editing processes to create pet portraits that are just in time for the gift giving season.

Help Stock the Panther Pantry on Tuesday, November 10th

On Tuesday, we ask students to bring in non-perishable goods to help stock the food pantry.

Veteran's Day Prayer Service

Due to the pandemic, we will not be holding our annual Veteran's Day breakfast. However we will be having a Veteran's Day prayer service at 2:30 for our students and staff. This prayer service will not be streamed for our families.

School Calendar Changes

In honor of everyone's hard work and dedication this year, the following days will now be early dismissal days with no aftercare.


November 24th is now a 12:30 p.m. dismissal day (it was a 3:30 p.m. dismissal day).


December 22nd is now a 12:30 p.m. dismissal day for all (its was a 3:30 p.m. dismissal day)! Happy early Christmas!

Family Photo with Santa

Mark your calendars for a Family Photo with Santa which will be held on Saturday,

December 5th , 2020. This is an exciting way for everyone in the family to kick off the

Christmas season! Due to the Covid-19 virus, the Breakfast with Santa family event had to

be cancelled to follow the CDC guidelines and state requirements of no large gatherings.

Please join us for a family photo with Santa. We will be offering time slots of:

8:00am, 8:30am, 9:00am, 9:30am, 10:00am, 10:30am, 11:00am, and 11:30am.

Annual Trees and Greens Sale!

Our trees and greens sale will be held December 4th, 5th and 6th. The sale takes place on the back parking lot of school and includes Christmas trees, wreaths, roping, swags and poinsettias.

Grant and Aid Application Process Is Now Open!

Tuition grant and aid is a need-based analysis of the cost of education vs. a family’s ability to pay and these awards do not need to be repaid. To objectively assess what a family is able to contribute to its student(s) education expenses, an independent third party (FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment) is used.


Returning families need only to log into their FACTS account and complete the grant and aid application. The application fee for the 2020-2021 application is $34.00.

Support the School Through SCRIP

HSA is encouraging all families to participate in the Shop with Scrip fundraiser this year, especially with the cancellation of many fundraisers due to COVID. It is a simple gift card fundraiser. It benefits your family and the school at the same time. The PowerPoint below contains new information about the new app RAISE RIGHT and our school's enrollment code. Recess Activities

There has been much discussion and some confusion about the use of balls at recess. To address any inconsistency across the grades, we would like to reiterate this policy. Students are permitted to bring in lacrosse sticks/softer lacrosse smash balls (the kind that don’t bounce), jump ropes, and hacky sacks. Due to the announcement of uptick in the COVID cases, we would like to refrain from allowing soccer balls that often result in the students playing mock games that involve throwing and catching and/or the balls rolling into other cohort zones which interferes with the close contact protocols.


We know that this is a challenging situation for students to find activities that are enjoyable as well as in alignment with protocols. Mrs. Rensberger and Mrs. Underwood will continue to research and examine all appropriate activities. Some students are bringing in card games and other activities that do not require sharing or contact. We are currently working with a student group to brainstorm new activities for recess.


Until further notice, no basketballs, soccer balls, or footballs will be permitted at recess. We long for the day when these restrictions can be lifted, but until then we value the students’ input and your understanding in this matter.

HSA - Recess Support

Last week, the HSA launched a volunteer recess monitor program to support the faculty and staff at RSPS. Several parent volunteers are now trained and have begun assisting during outdoor recesses. We are still looking for a few more volunteers. The commitment requires a specific COVID-19 training (provided by RSPS administration) and a current STAND/VIRTUS badge. The time commitment is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours during the 10:45-12:45pm time range and does not require a weekly commitment.

Parking Lot Protocols

Arrival: Please be mindful of the morning parishioners who attend mass on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This adds to the activity in the parking lot and we want to ensure everyone's safety.

Dismissal: We thank you for your cooperation and patience during dismissal; especially those parents who are parked at the top of the parking lot. We make every attempt to keep the flow of traffic moving smoothly. To enhance efficiency and safety, we would like to implement the following practice. When parents arrive after the dismissal process has already started, please park at the back of the lot in or as near to your assigned area as possible. Your student(s) will not be permitted to cross the parking lot to your vehicle until all cars have been dismissed. This will help maintain everyone’s safety. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Things to know:

· All orders will be picked up on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:15, this will be our designated pick up day.

· All checks should be made payable to: Resurrection- St. Paul School HSA (with cookbook noted in the for note field).

· You will receive a confirmation email verifying that your order has been received and that it will be ready for pick up.

· If for any reason you need to pay by cash, please note you must pay the exact amount as we will be unable to make change.

· We are unable to accept any payments via kid mail and we are unable to send any cookbooks home via kid mail, no exceptions.

**Pick up procedure- pull up in front of the school entrance and we will come out and get the name for pickup. For new families and old, spirit wear is a day that kids can come out of uniform yet in their spirit wear of RSPS. It can be any of our theme tshirts (past theme t-shirts are OK to wear for September as we await our 2020-2021 theme shirts), or items from our spirit wear shop.


Which FYI the spirit wear shop is a FUNraiser for our school community! There are tons of amazing items and you can even customize them!

Policies and Procedures

Arrival and Dismissal Safety

In order to keep our students, faculty, staff, and families safe please adhere to the following:


  • all morning arrival traffic should enter from Chatham Rd (please do not skip traffic lanes by cutting through the parking lot)
  • only vehicles dropping off students in Grades 3-8 should exit via Paulskirk Drive in the morning
  • all traffic for dismissal should enter and exit via Chatham Road
  • drive through the parking lot at a safe speed (5 mph or less)
  • follow Maryland regulations for children in car and booster seats
  • children should be seated properly and buckled until the car is no longer moving
  • observe parking lot signage and staff instructions

We are asking everyone who arrives to school after dismissal has started, to please park up by the playground area. This will help ensure the safety of our students!

Out of State Travel Policy

In an effort to reduce the possibility of introducing the COVID-19 virus into a school community, RSPS established a policy applicable to both students and employees which requires notification be provided when individuals are traveling out of state to areas defined as high risk jurisdictions based upon positivity rates of the destination.


Procedural Points:


  1. Students (attending in person) and staff (working on campus in person) are advised if they intend to travel to a state with a positivity rate for COVID-19 of 10% or greater during the period of their stay, notification of such intention must be communicated to the principal. For purposes of this guidance, the positivity rate should be based upon the average rate as determined for the period of the entire stay. Those traveling will be required to quarantine upon their return until such time as either they provide evidence of a negative test result for COVID-19 and are asymptomatic or they complete an entire 14 day quarantine.

  2. Students in quarantine may participate in the remote learning program.

Students Who are Quarantining

If students must quarantine for possible COVID-19 exposure, they may participate in classes as distance learners until they have been cleared to return to school.

VIRTUS Training for all Volunteers

Required training for all volunteers

Virtus is used throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore as part of the child protection requirements for all volunteers with substantial contact with minors. New families received Virtus registration instructions in their Enrollment packet. Once the Virtus process has been completed, volunteers will receive a volunteer card to wear while volunteering at school. Please contact Joanne Dewey at jdewey@resstpaul.org if you need further assistance or have any questions.


Due to COVID-19 policies, visitors and volunteers will not be allowed in the building until further notice. We welcome volunteer service that can be done from home.

RSPS Career Opportunities

We are looking to expand our current Panther Faculty and Staff for the 2020-2021 school year to accommodate the needs of our students and all our reduced class sizes due to risk mitigation policies and procedures.


In-Person Early Childhood Education Teacher


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide grade appropriate instructional program for students, coursework to include teaching Religion
  • Instruct students in all content area subjects
  • Maintains an attractive, organized, and engaging learning environment
  • Develops lesson plans with clear objectives in line with the Archdiocesan Course of Study
  • Provides grade appropriate extended or enrichment opportunities
  • Uses relevant technology to support/enhance instruction including one-on-one devices such as IPads and Chromebooks, as well as interactive whiteboards
  • Maintains appropriate control through positive discipline techniques
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress in Power School
  • Provides regular and consistent communication with parents, students, staff and administration
  • Performs assigned duties when needed for the supervision of students before, during or after school including lunch duties, recess duties, dismissal duties, detention, and any other duties assigned by the administration
  • Participates in faculty meetings, school committees, and in-service learning opportunities
  • Attends school events including Back to School Nights, Open Houses, Parent/Teacher conference days, and other events as requested by the administration


Job Requirements

  • Practicing Roman Catholic
  • Bachelor degree in education
  • Current MSDE certification
  • Prior successful teaching experience in early education preferred
  • Positive references and recommendations
  • Basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic school philosophy, goals and objectives
  • Must be comfortable with or willing to learn technology including Chromebooks, Google Classroom, interactive white boards, etc.


Substitute Teacher


Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement lesson plans utilizing a variety of techniques to motivate, challenge and engage students
  • Plan and execute instructional programs that adhere to Archdiocesan curriculum
  • Create an instructional environment conducive to learning
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Safely and actively supervise students both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration
  • Meet the needs, interests and abilities of students
  • Perform various non-teaching related duties such as recess, lunch, and parking lot, etc.


Job Requirements:

  • Prior successful experience working with students
  • Positive references and recommendations
