A message from the Principal

Welcome back, I hope you had a fabulous break! We are happy to have our school full of learners for the second semester. Remember to update the parent portal with any changes to phone numbers or email addresses so you can receive the delayed start notices and snow day cancellations.

One of the items auctioned off at the Chili Supper was a reserved parking spot at the school. There is a sign designating that spot for the Chili Supper donor so please be mindful that you are not parking in that parking space.

We are in that time of year that we get more snow on the ground so please send your student with the proper gear for playing in the snow on recess. We do not have very many extra clothes in the health office so if your student gets wet, we will not be able to give them something to change into.

Water fountains are still turned off due to Covid and we only have the bottle filler. Be sure your student comes with a water bottle every day as not all classrooms have cups to hand out to students.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Sarah Walgast

Principal

District fees

You should have had a district fee statement sent home with your student. This is a district fee that is based on a combination of the purchase price and normal life expectancy of texts and actual costs of workbooks and consumable materials. The instructional materials fee is charged on a per-student basis and goes into the district's general fund for distribution to the curriculum budget for text purchases and schools for additional texts, replacement materials or consumable materials. The amount every year is approved by the board of education and is $32.00 per student in K-5 this school year.

You can pay these fees by sending cash or check to the front office or online using the RevTrak system.

The following is the website link for the RevTrak system. (This link is posted on Portal > Fees and also on the school district’s website).

https://thompson.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=products&grp=15

RevTrak Log in: A parent must have a Portal account to access RevTrak. To log in to RevTrak, a parent will use their Infinite Campus Portal “User Name” and child’s birthdate as the Password.

Mind Time Volunteers Needed

Mind Time is back for a second semester at Big T! This small group instructional program has already shown huge success in test scores the first part of the year, that we decided to continue the program. Mind Time is a program for our first and second graders to receive more catered instruction from their teacher in reading. Students rotate through small groups Monday, Tuesday and Friday of every week. Students who are not working with their assigned teacher, will be working on our online reading instruction program, Lexia. In order to assist our teachers, we are looking for 4 to 6 registered volunteers, Monday, Tuesday and Friday morning of every week, to help our support staff supervise students using the computers. Volunteers are needed from 8:10am to 8:40am, Monday, Tuesday and Friday of each week. Volunteer for some or as many slots you are available. Whether you have a first/second grader or not, this is a great opportunity to make a difference at Big T! Parents, grandparents and even working spouses who can spare an hour are encouraged to sign up. We truly appreciate any help you can give. If you or someone you know needs to register to be a volunteer please go to the district's website https://www.thompsonschools.org/volunteer to sign up and have a volunteer background check completed. If you are already registered, you do not need to reapply. Once registered (or if you are already registered) please take the time to review the available slots at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F45AAAA29A0F58-mind1 and click on the button to sign up. This sign up will be ongoing now till the end of the school year, so please check back frequently to help us fill these spots. Thank you!

***All volunteers must be registered and follow all current TSD Covid Guidelines. Currently, everyone is required to wear a mask inside the building, regardless of vaccination status. We also ask that young siblings remain at home. If you have any questions, please contact Big T's volunteer coordinator, Erin Lambert, at bigtvolunteer@gmail.com.***

Thank you for continued support and making this program a success!

Substitutes needed

Looking for a part time job? Would you like to work with Big T students for a day or a half day? The school district is in need of substitute teachers. The best thing is you do not have to work at all the schools in the whole district, you can specify which schools you would like to work at - including Big T! We could really use some good people to cover when a staff member cannot be here.

If you would like to be on the list to substitute for a classified position (secretary, library, health aide, classroom aide) Please go the the Thompson School District employment page and apply to be a classified substitute. Once you are approved for the position let me know at stacey.faykosh@tsd.org and I will place you on our substitute call list for Big T. Here is the link to apply: https://www.applitrack.com/thompson/onlineapp/default.aspx

Our greatest need is for certified substitutes who cover classroom positions. For these positions you need a state substitute certification (which is pretty easy to obtain) then apply on the Thompson School district website at the above link. Once again, email me your information once you are in the system and I will put you on our call list. The state has 3 certification levels. A 1 year certification for anyone who has a high school diploma or GED, a 3 year certification for anyone with a college degree and a 5 year certification for anyone with a current or expired teaching certification. Here is the link for the state certification: https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/licensure_subapp

Please consider this great employment opportunity and assist Big T at the same time!

Early Childhood/Preschool Program in the Thompson School District

Are you interested in your child being ready for kindergarten? Are you interested in free preschool for your 3 or 4 year old child? If your child turns 3 or 4 by October 1, you may qualify for preschool! Please contact us at 970-613-5052 if you have any questions or visit our website for information about the programs we offer and how to apply.

Big T Volunteers

Register to Volunteer at Big T!

Did you know that all volunteers must be registered through the district to be able to volunteer at any TSD school or event? This includes volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning field trips, helping with PTA sponsored events like Chili Supper, judging field day and more. If you are new to Thompson School District and Big T or maybe a longtime family but have never registered, now is the best time to do so. Please click on the link below and take a few minutes to register. Once complete, the district will conduct a background check and issue a volunteer badge just for you that will be available at Big T everytime you volunteer! Be sure to also download and print the Covid-19 Waiver Form for volunteers located on the link. You may drop off your signed copy with the Big T front office. It is highly suggested that anyone who may be interested in volunteering now or in the future, register today as volunteer registration will close in the spring and you'll have to wait till next year.

***Please note- if you have registered in the past, you do not need to register again. We ask that you take a few minutes to log into your account and verify that all information is up to date.

Water bottles

With the warmer weather please remember to send a water bottle with your student every day. We cannot drink from the water fountains so a water bottle is a necessity. The front office does not have any more bottles to hand out to students who forgot theirs at home.

Important Vaccination Information

Hello Big T families!

Just a reminder, Colorado state regulations require all students entering 6th grade in the fall to have the Tdap vaccine (a combination vaccine booster for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) Please have your child immunized before the start of the school year. Please consult your healthcare provider with any questions you may have.

If you choose to be exempt from Immunizations, read on!

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, the process of filing a nonmedical exemption will change. There will be two ways to file a nonmedical exemption.

  • File the certificate of nonmedical exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR
  • File the certificate of nonmedical exemption received upon the completion of our online education module. Here is the link to the module:

    https://www.dcphrapps.dphe.state.co.us/storyline360/story.html

  • Parents of students in grades K-12 claiming a nonmedical exemption must file one annually." Nonmedical exemptions expire June 30 each year. If you submit a nonmedical exemption on or before June 30, it will not be valid for the upcoming school year unless you signed the exemption during early registration.
  • Parents of students in preschool or child care must file nonmedical exemptions at 2, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months of age. These exemptions expire when the next vaccines are due or when the child enrolls in kindergarten."

* This process will have to be completed every school year.

I have attached the certificate of non-medical exemption if you choose to have an approved practitioner co-sign the form with you. You will need to provide the signed copy of the certificate to the school.

If there is a medical reason for the exemption, please complete the certificate medical exemption (also attached) and have an approved practitioner co-sign. This only has to be done one time.

Please bring all immunization records or exemption forms into the LEAP office.

Thank you and let me know if you have any questions!
