Viola
Identity
Viola thinks she's kind, and truthful. In the text it says, "Nay, an thou pass upon me, I'll no more with thee. Hold, there's expenses for thee" (III. i. 37-38). This quote shows that she is kind because she is giving the fool some money. In the text it also says, "No, not a grize. for 'tis a vulgar proof that very oft we pity enemies" (III. i. 115-116). This quote shows she is truthful because she is saying that she doesn't love Olivia that Olivia still can be her enemy but she still can feel sorry for her.
Gender
In the text viola pretends to be her brother. The gender role that she plays as her brother comes with many difficulties such as not getting caught or accidentally saying something that she shouldn't. There's also many limitations such as not able to say what she really wants to say. In the text it says, "By my troth, I'll tell thee, I am almost sick for one (aside) though I would not have it grow on my chin (to fool) Is they lady within?"(III. I. 40-42). This is saying how she would want a beard but not n her face, on a man that's hers. She doesn't directly say this to the fool because she has to hide her gender since she's pretending to be Sebastion. This is one of the many limitations she has as being her brother.
Perception
People view viola as young and feminine . In the it says,"O, then unfold the passion of my love, surprise her with discourse of my dear faith: It shall become thee well to act my woes; she will attend it better in thy youth than in a nuncio's of more grave aspect" (I. iv. 23-27). This quote is saying how orsino loves Olivia a lot and how he wants viola to go talk to her for him. He thinks Olivia will listen to her more because she's younger and a less serious suitor. In the text is also says, "Thy small pipe is as the maiden's organ. shrill and sound, and all is semblative a women's part"(I. iv. 31-33). This is saying how duke is calling her more feminine because of her voice and looks.
similarities and differences
Some similarities that me and viola have in common is that we both are very kind and truthful. In the story she has many opportunities to be mean or lie about things but she doesn't. Most of the time I am always truthful and I am always kind to either new people or even people I have known for a long time. Some differences are people thing viola is very feminine while people don't view me as very feminine. Another difference is that viola is pretending to be someone she's not while I am trying to be the real me.
Identity
In She's the Man, viola thinks she is very athletic. In the movie viola's soccer team gets cut. She asks the boys soccer coach if her and some other girls can tryout for the boys team, but the coach says no (She's the Man). Viola soon dresses up as her brother to play on the boys team at a different school. Viola makes the team and is able to play on the boys team like she wanted to. This shows she's athletic because she still made the team as a girl going against boys that are bigger than her.
Gender
In She's the Man, Viola dresses up as her brother Sebastion so she can play on the boys soccer team. In the movie Sebastion leaves so viola comes up with a good idea of dressing up as him to play on the boys team after her team got cut (She's the Man). Viola experiences many different things as being her brother. There are many challenges she had to face such as not being able to tell duke how she really fells about him because of her disguise. It was also very hard for her to try and help duke out by talking Olivia into liking him.
Perception
In She's the Man, people view viola as more feminine. In the movie when viola is talking to Olivia about duke Olivia says how viola isn't like the rest of the guys (She's the Man). This is meaning that she is acting more like a girl because of what she talks about and how she talks about it. She's perceived as more feminine because of the things she talks about, in the movie she also talks about shoes and feelings. These things are usually what girls would talk about not what guys would talk about.
Similarities and DIfferences
Some similarities that me and viola share are that we both have a strong passion for soccer. When violas team got cut at her school she dressed up as her brother just to be able to play on a team. Also we both strongly believe that guys are not more athletic than girls. In the movie when she asks to try out for the boys team the coach and the other players laugh at her and say that she's to weak and stuff to be able to play with them. Some differences we share are that viola is very feminine. She talks about shoes and stuff when I'm not really like that.
