Gratitude!
This week our students will learn more about the character strength of Gratitude!
What is gratitude?
Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”
The parent virtue for bravery is transcendence. These strengths allow people to rise above their troubles and find meaning in the larger universe. Strengths of transcendence are appreciation of beauty and excellence, connection/purpose, gratitude, hope/optimism, and humor.
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” — William Arthur Ward
The Amazing Effects of Gratitude
Food Drive - Tuesday, November 13-Friday, November 16!
Did you know that Buckhorn Creek Elementary has a program for kids that face food insecurity? The BCES PTA has partnered with Holly Springs United Methodist Church, Hope Community Church, and parents at our school to help provide bags of food each weekend to children that are part of the Meals for Mateys program. We are extending this program over the holidays to provide additional food to families in need. From Nov 13-16, we will be having a school-wide food drive to gather donations of food. You can sign-up for items to bring to help ensure we receive a variety of foods at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F45AAA92DA20-buckhorn
