Grading Information and Reminders for 2nd Semester
First semester concludes today!
Beginning Tuesday, students have a fresh start heading into second semester.
A few important reminders to assist your student for their success in the new semester:
-All learning experiences should be posted in Canvas modules for both hybrid and virtual students to access by school start time at the beginning of the week. These experiences should include at least two lessons per week per course on a block schedule and three lessons per week for courses that meet daily. All work from students will also be submitted through Canvas.
-For organizational purposes and to help students manage time, due dates will be assigned. Our teachers are also understanding the need to be flexible to meet the needs of students/families as they navigate the challenges created by the pandemic as well as our hybrid learning model. Encourage your student to reach out to teachers with any concerns around due dates.
-Please encourage your student to make sure they are submitting their original work. Plagiarism is against school policy and could result in a zero for the assignment.
-Responses to student/parent inquiries should be provided within a 24-hour period during the school week (via email, phone call, Teams call, or face-to-face).
-PowerSchool grade books will be updated at least once every ten school days (2 weeks) by the teaching staff. Semester grades are cumulative and recorded on the permanent record. Priority Standards will provide the basis for determining grades for each course.
-Tutoring will still be in place for second semester with an after school bus available.
-Teachers are available during their plan for virtual office hours through Microsoft Teams and on Wednesday’s are available during the following times:
· 9:30-10:30 – Social Studies
· 10:30 – 11:30 – Science
· 11:30 - 12:30 – Electives/SpED
· 12:30 – 1:30 – ELA
· 1:30 – 2:30 – Math
See the below document for individual teacher’s office hour times.
We look forward to partnering with you and your student to finish out strong this school year!

CORONAVIRUS UPDATES FROM NKC SCHOOLS
COVID Testing Communication from the District
Tuesday, December 1
Subject: COVID-19 Antigen Testing Availability in Schools
NKC Schools families,
The state of Missouri recently provided school districts with COVID-19 antigen tests for students and staff members. NKC Schools will begin utilizing these rapid tests for individuals who become symptomatic while at school or work.
If a student or staff member is experiencing symptoms and is referred to the school nurse, the nurse will make the determination as to whether there is need for an antigen test. Testing may be provided by the school nurse as part of a comprehensive assessment for COVID-19.
Tests will be administered in our schools adhering to the following protocols:
· Testing is completely voluntary for both students and staff.
· Testing will not be available to students nor staff members who have been determined to be close contacts to an individual who has tested positive and asked to stay home. Tests will not be accessible to students who are learning 100% virtually.
· Before testing, a student’s parent or legal guardian must sign a consent form. The parent or legal guardian must also be physically present in the nurse’s office during the test.
· The BinaxNOW COVID-19 antigen test involves a minimally invasive nasal swab administered by a nurse who has received specialized training, with results available within 15 minutes.
· All test results will be reported to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services within 24 hours of the test administration.
Should a student or staff member receive a positive test result, NKC Schools will follow our established COVID-19 protocols and begin contact tracing. In the event of a negative test result, the school nurse will provide further guidance.
We know that our school community plays an important role in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Continuing to wear masks, wash hands frequently, practice social distancing to the extent possible, and stay home when experiencing symptoms is critical. Should you have additional questions, please contact your school or your school nurse directly. Thank you for your partnership as we continue to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 in our school communities and find new ways to best serve our students.
