A wonderful evening!
Dear Briones Families,
It was wonderful to see you at Back to School Night! Needless to say, we would have rather welcomed you in person, however our teachers came through with informative presentations and heart that was reflective of their growing expertise on zoom and the care that they bring when working with our students each day.
Thank you to PiE chairs, Ana and Heewon, and PTA co-presidents, Ginnie and Gaya, for their welcoming and informative presentations! My screen sharing mishap coupled with helpful feedback to correct the situation embody how we, as a community, are collaborating to problem-solve when issues arise.
Our "new normal" requires patience, proactive communication, collaboration, and empathy. We may be living in isolation, but our goals are united in wanting each and every child in our school community to thrive. In this new normal, things take more time, changes arise, and we must constantly adjust as partners in our students' academic, social, and emotional learning journeys.
We are equipped to grow together with increased teacher collaboration and planning time, increased tier II and III support through our MTSS style schedule, and multiple means for parent and student feedback and communication directly to teachers, case managers, and me during office hours, and by appointment to meet.
Please contact your child's teacher (and case manager if your child has an IEP) first to communicate how they are engaging with the class and content at home and know that I am available for further support.
Together we can do this! I am deeply grateful to work among such a caring, supportive community!
In case you were unable to join us, here are the slides from the K-5 information session. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Helping your Children to Grow Druing Distance Learning
Now that the third week of school is in full swing and students are more acclimated to the routines and expectations of the school day, it is time to release more responsibilities on to your child. Logging on, making their own snacks, keeping an assignment notebook- look for ways to build independence and responsibility at every grade level. There is no need to sit alongside your child throughout the day. We want children to practice being leaders of their learning and gain confidence in their abilities.
Please note that all assignments in any grade are found through the ID portal, on Clever, Schoology, or Seesaw. Teachers do not assign outside YouTube videos or common video games.
Important! Technology Use Agreement
As we become accustomed to the distance learning model, it is important that we all gain a shared understanding of the expectations across the district for student use of technology. Please review the following for with your student(s) and submit it by Monday, September 7.
Every family will need to submit one form for each child in your family. Your attention to this important task is greatly appreciated!
Community Conversations with the Principal - Feedback Needed!
Our conversations are important and help me to move our school forward. Please take a moment to share the topics you are most interested in discussing this year and the time(s) that would be most convenient for you to meet.
The survey is brief and will help me to provide meaningful information and guest speakers. Thank you!
Upcoming Contactless Distribution Events - Save the dates!
With a million thanks to our teachers, custodians, office staff, and parent volunteers, we will be hosting distribution events every two weeks through October to ensure that our students have everything they need to start the year off right! After October we will go to monthly distribution events until we are able to safely return to school.
When: The following Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 PM:
What: Various materials and books from your child's classroom, library books beginning 9/23, art lesson supplies beginning 9/23, and shhhhh, a packet of jelly beans from Ms. B. to distribute to your child on their birthday.
Where: 4100 Orme Street pick-up/drop-off area.
1. Write your student(s)'s name and grade level on a piece of paper in large letters and tape it to the front passenger-side windshield of your car.
2. Drive up Orme Street to Briones and stop at your child's grade level. A wonderful volunteer will drop materials into your trunk. If you have more than one child, drive up to the oldest child's grade level and let the volunteer know you have two or more students to pick up for.
*Because the pick-up window is only 90 minutes, we encourage you to connect with other parents to help pick up supplies should you not be able to make it yourself. Just have the parent display all student names and grade levels in large letters on the passenger-side windshield of their car.
