This information is for all Seniors at RBHS ( Hybrid Face to Face and LOOLA)
Thanks to all Seniors that attend the Senior Webinar (Virtual Senior Class Meeting) on Tuesday, September 8 or Wednesday, September 9. Congratulations to those that answered the questions and got a prize!!!! Rhodes Graduation/Jostens shared a lot of information about things that you must have to participate in Graduation and other Senior items you can order.
General Information for you to know.
- To participate in Graduation you must have the following things: cap, robe, tassel, RB Stole, and diploma cover.
- If you have older siblings that have graduated from RB and you want to wear their stuff, you can but make sure it fits you, especially the cap. You will still need to order a tassel and diploma cover.
- You will be expected to pay for what you order.
- Talk with your parents about what you should order.
- If you want graduation announcements (These are like an invitation to graduation that are usually sent to family and friends) you need to order them now because Rhodes Graduation only prints what is ordered with some extra.
- If you order any jewelry with a stone in it, the stone must be green.
- We do not have a Graduation Date at this time.

You must put down a $60.00 deposit or you can pay in full. Order deadline is Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Order now because the prices will go up. Things needed for Graduation will be delivered in March.
On Friday, September 18, 2020 from 9am-11am in the front horseshoe Rhodes Graduation will host a Senior Supply Celebration drive thru pick up for any Senior that ordered one of the packages and got all the extra Senior items. You will only get the extra items not the items for Graduation.You must have put down a deposit of $60.00 or paid in full. You will get your Graduation items in March.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS: ACT and SAT
General Information
Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of the student/parent to register for the ACT and SAT tests. The C&A staff can answer questions at any time. Log on to sat.org/register or www.actstudent.org to register.
- The ACT / SAT are college admissions tests & aid institutions in determining a student’s potential for success in college. (Students planning on attending a 2-year or technical college generally do NOT need to take either test.) Colleges/universities in S.C. accept both ACT and/or SAT scores. Students should refer to the admission requirements for each institution they plan to attend.
- If you plan to take the ACT, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you take the writing component at least once. It is not so necessary on subsequent retakes.
- If you are a special needs student and would like to request testing accommodations for the ACT or SAT, it is your responsibility to initiate the process by discussing the procedure with your counselor. The process is very time-consuming (minimum 6 – 8 weeks). Each testing agency (College Board / ACT) has its own application for accommodations.
VERY IMPORTANT! Please make sure that you fill in the school code for River Bluff High School when registering for the ACT/SAT. If you fail to do this, our school will NOT receive your scores. The school testing code is 411292.
Virtual College leadership fair hosted by the United States Army Cadet Command
We cordially invite you to participate in the first virtual college leadership fair hosted by the United States Army Cadet Command on 26 September 2020 from 10am-1pm. This event will bring over 100 Universities to students across our country in a safe and virtual environment. Students will have the ability to move around virtual tables to talk to the University Army ROTC programs, advisors, and current students at the Universities.

AES Engineering Scholarship Due October 5, 2020
Visit http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm to find information about this scholarship. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essay that is submitted. Write an essay between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey? You are not required to take Engineering courses to be eligible. Submit essay to: scholarships@aesengineers.com.
American Muscle Student Scholarship-Due October 15
We are offering 2 currently enrolled students or high school seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education an opportunity to be awarded $2,500 in tuition assistance towards their upcoming semester! This scholarship is ongoing and will be available for both the spring and fall semesters each year.
Those students who have exceptional drive and ambition should submit a 700-1500 word essay here telling us who you are and how you plan on using your automotive education to incite positive change and innovation within the custom car industry. All entries must be submitted as a PDF or Microsoft Word document to be eligible for consideration and must also be accompanied by proof of current enrollment in an accredited United States college or university.
Please submit your essays by 12:00PM EST on October 15th for all spring semester applicants and by June 15th for all fall applicants. Winning scholarships will be paid directly to the school as a tuition payment.
Winners will be selected by November 15th for all spring contestants and by July 15th for fall applicants.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 32nd class in 2020, the Foundation has provided over 6,300 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $72 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. College Board Opportunity Scholarships (CBOS)
Students in the class of 2021 who practice for the SAT for six hours using Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy® and improve their score by 100+ points—either from their PSAT 10 to SAT, PSAT/NMSQT to SAT, or SAT to SAT—earn a chance at a $2,000 scholarship
Davidson College
As a scholar athlete, you know the meaning of hard work and setting goals, and the importance of discipline and focus. You are as comfortable discussing literature, science, and art as you are in the pool, or on the court, the track or the field. That training has paid off.
You must be nominated by your school or by a member of the Davidson coaching staff to be considered for a Lowell L. Bryan Scholarship, an award for top scholar athletes, equivalent to full tuition and fees. The scholarship is renewable for the remaining three years of your Davidson career, provided you continue to play your eligible sport, maintain a specified grade point average, and meet requirements toward earning a degree. Horatio-Alger Scholarship
As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders.
The National Scholarship is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. National Scholars receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference. Recipients must attend the National Scholars Conference to receive the award.
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2021 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
- Be a United States citizen

The Prudential Spirit of Community Award
To be eligible, you must:
- be in grades 5-12 as of November 5
- be a legal resident of any U.S. state or Washington, D.C.
- have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred during the 12 months prior to the date of the application
- submit a completed application to a school or the head of an official designated local organization by November 5.
Local Honorees receive a Certificate of Achievement from their schools or organization. Those Local Honorees who qualify (26 hours of service for ages 10 and younger, 50 hours for ages 11-15, and 100 hours for older students) also receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Distinguished Finalists receive an engraved bronze medallion, and other state-level runners-up receive Certificates of Excellence.
State Honorees receive an award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., for national recognition events.
National Honorees receive an additional award of $5,000, an engraved gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their schools or nominating organizations, and a $5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation for a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice.

Interested in Teaching? Apply to become a Teaching Fellow - Up to a $24,000 scholarship
This Program offers the state’s brightest and best students up to $24,000 over four years to become South Carolina educators. The mission of the Program is to recruit talented high school seniors into the teaching profession and help them develop leadership qualities. Each year, the program provides Fellowships for up to 200 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community, and a desire to teach in South Carolina.
Teaching Fellows participate in advanced enrichment programs at Teaching Fellows Institutions, have additional professional development opportunities, and are involved with communities and businesses throughout the state. They receive up to $24,000 in fellowship funds (up to $6000 a year for four years) while they complete a degree leading to initial teacher certification. The fellowship provides up to $5700 for tuition and board and $300 for specific enrichment programs administered by CERRA. All Teaching Fellows awards are contingent upon funding from the SC General Assembly. A Fellow agrees to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for every year he or she receives the Fellowship.

Administered by CERRA-South Carolina, the Program provides fellowships for up to 200 students each year (actual number determined by funding from the General Assembly). These students participate in enrichment programs at a Teaching Fellows Institution, engage in professional development and leadership opportunities, partner with communities and businesses, and receive up to a $6,000 fellowship annually for four years as long as they are in the process of completing a degree leading to teacher certification and meet the criteria to continue in the program. A Fellow must agree to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for each year he/she receives funding.
Any student who is a legal resident of South Carolina (DACA students are not eligible for Teaching Fellows) and a current high school senior, or junior graduating early, and who will be attending college as a freshman in the fall of 2021, may apply. Fellowships are based on academic achievement, references, community and school involvement, an interview and a writing assessment. Students must attend one of the eleven Teaching Fellows Institutions. Currently, these include Anderson University, Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Lander University, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate, and Winthrop University.

Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest
Voice of Democracy
Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, more than 51,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.9 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$16,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Want to apply? Archibald Rutledge Scholarship
The South Carolina Department of Education is announcing the Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Program. This annual program offers public school twelfth-grade students the opportunity to compete for a scholarship worth approximately $2,000 in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and recognize academic and artistic excellence. Applicants may participate in one of the following discipline areas: creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program
The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program at The University of Texas at Dallas is one of the nation’s most generous and selective undergraduate merit awards.
