Dear Brooklyn Collaborative Families,
We warmly invite you to join us for our Annual BCS Potluck Community Feast: A Circle of Thanks & Celebration community event this Friday, November 16th from 5:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. in the BCS Cafeteria.
Bring your family, friends, and a favorite dish for an evening of celebration, performances, thanksgiving, community building, and breaking bread with other families and staff.
As you do your last minute shopping, finalize your guest list and dinner menu, prepare for family to come over or head out of town to visit family, we ask that you spend some time with your Brooklyn Collaborative Family.
We are so thankful and grateful as a school for our teachers, students, and families!!

- Tracey and senior Marquis attended the celebration at Brooklyn Borough Hall to bestow the key to Brooklyn to celebrity Tracy Morgan!
- Tracy Morgan is a friend of Brooklyn Collaborative, having visited last year along with State Bags to inspire our 7th and 8th graders!
- Congrats to Tracy Morgan, philanthropist, activist, and Brooklynite!
PTA CORNER
BCS PTA on the Move!
- Congratulations to our BCS PTA for their successful bake sale on Election Day---making over $1400 with yummy goodies that delighted everyone's tummies!

Our BCS PTA kicked off their monthly workshop at last night's PTA General Meeting featuring Restorative Practice Coordinator Taron Williams. He shared with families what restorative practices are, how we implement them at BCS, and how families may use them in interactions with their children.
Congratulations to 6th grade parent Zac Martin for being elected as our Title 1 Representative.

Our Wolves girls basketball team attended a campus visit with CCNY with Coach Nikkie, speaking with college student-athletes and being inspired by their pathways to college success.

Robosharks Showcase at Barnes & Noble
- This weekend, the Brooklyn Collaborative Robotics Team and staff advisor Eddie Kelly showcased at Barnes and Noble (Park Slope branch - 267 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215).
- We were there on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm showcasing our own creative robots.
- We also showcased other various makerfaire products available for sale.
- Brooklyn Collaborative received a portion of the profits from this book fair, all to benefit our Robotics Team!
- This is the fourth year we presented at Barnes and Noble!
AFTER SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES
YWCA @ BCS After School Program: Grades 6 - 8
- The YWCA After-School Program is pleased to announce that we will be performing in this year’s BCS Community Feast. Our dance group better known as “The Eliminators” have been practicing extensively and are beyond excited to perform for family and friends!
- This week our Art Class, created Sky portraits using water colors!
- Our cooking class prepared several signature Latin dishes including Empanadas and “Ceilito Lindo”, (a popular Puerto Rican dip). The kids really enjoyed the food as we celebrated the birthdays of our students and staff born in September through November.

CLASSROOM, COLLABORATION, & CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT
11/6: BCS Staff Spend a Day of Learning around the City
- All staff attended quality professional development around the city.
- Most of our Brooklyn Collaborative teachers attended the Quality Work Protocol with all the NYC Outward Bound schools, looking at high quality tasks and student work in addition to sharing best practices with other teachers of similar subjects in other network schools.
- Our Crew to College Team went to College Access for All PD uptown, learning about how to improve our college access culture.
- Our Paraprofessional Team and Support Team spent the day at Brooklyn Law School deepening their knowledge about Implicit Bias.
Imani, John, Chrissy, Adam, and Claire Presented at the EL National Conference
- Our staff were in full force, presenting master classes on model EL practices.
- Imani, John, Chrissy, Adam, and Claire presented at the EL National Conference in Philly.
- Congrats! Imani presented on using EL pedagogy in family engagement, Adam and Claire presented on schoolwide Mathlympics, and John and Chrissy presented on mastery grading.
- It is an honor for any EL Education school to be selected for a master class - for Brooklyn Collaborative to be selected for three master classes is an extreme honor! Go BCS!
LIBRARY CORNER
BCS/BNS Librarians Capture Professional Development Mometnts
- BCS/BNS Librarians Susan and Amanda C. went to CitiField for professional development where new Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza expressed his commitment to school libraries staffed by certified school libraries.
- We also attended some great sessions including the Lambda Literary session on how school libraries can support LGBTQ students.

Box Tops for Education
- BCS participates in the Box Tops for Education program. This program provides schools with a way to raise funds by turning in cut-out box tops from specially marked General Mills products.
- Each collected box top can be redeemed for ten cents.
- Please collect your box tops and submit them to Tracey in Rm 41
