The 3Cs Connection
Student & Parent Newsletter for CCC - April 2022
Hello Spring!
Cyclone Families,
The end of a school year brings many celebratory events - Proms, Ring Dances, Academic Awards, CCC Signing Day, Banquets, and Graduations. I look forward to celebrating with our students and families at these events throughout the remainder of the year. Please work with me to keep your students focused and attending school. I want to see them finish the year strong!
April 4 - 8 is National Assistant Principals Week. This month The 3Cs Connection spotlights Dr. Karin Collier, Assistant Principal. Please join me in thanking Dr. Collier for all her hard work and dedication to the students, faculty and staff of CCC.
Looking forward, the first week of May is national Teacher Appreciation Week. I can't begin to describe the dedication, innovation, and just sheer hard work and care Chesapeake Career Center teachers demonstrate on a daily basis. We owe them a debt of gratitude for taking care of our students' heads and hearts. Please take a moment to thank your student's teacher!

Supporting student success is my passion, and I am excited to help our students expand their vision for their future, explore high-demand career fields, and engage in quality work-based learning experiences. The opportunities afforded to students at CCC are unparalleled. It is my goal to promote current programs while expanding opportunities for students to gain valuable skills and experiences that will equip them for meaningful, prosperous careers.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I have a passion for traveling, and I enjoy activities such as hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, and skiing.

Attendance Matters
Students who miss more than 9 days in any given semester class may lose credit for that class due to excessive absences, regardless of whether the absences were excused or not. If your child's excessive absences include days missed due to a quarantine documented by the nurse, those absences will be waived from the 9 day limit.
Your child's attendance is posted in ParentVue. A letter alerting you to a potential loss of credit is posted in ParentVue when your child reaches 6, 9, and 10 absences in each class. This is your official notification of excessive absences, so please check ParentVue often to monitor your student's attendance. Students can make-up a portion of missed time by attending extended day.
If a student must be absent, please email or bring a note to our attendance secretary (nancy .manning@cpschools.com) so we can code the absence appropriately.
Along with your student's high school, Dr. Collier, Assistant Principal, should be notified in advance about trips, vacations, and other lengthy unexcused absences to ensure student progress in class. Please email or send a note to karin.collier@cpschools.com explaining the absence prior to the absence.
The Chesapeake School Board has defined an excused absence to include any of the following: Sickness of a student, medical appointments, severe illness or death in the family, exposure to contagious disease, religious holidays, or extenuating circumstances such as fire, accident, or extremely inclement weather. Absences other than those listed above will be recorded as unexcused absences.
