FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
OVCA High School ~ February 19th, 2021
Hello families!
Another unprecedented event meets us these past two weeks with record-setting low temperatures, layers of ice, and buckets of snow. Please reach out to your CFA if you are still without power or internet.
This week we are wrapping up our USA Test Prep interim assessments. These mock ACTs help prepare students for the ACT assessment. Next week, teachers will be doing data digs and professional development. Therefore, there is no school on Thursday or Friday, 2/25 and 2/26.
As we near the one-year mark of our pandemic, I wanted to remind families that live class connects offer students the ability to interact with their peers. Also, we have several clubs that students can participate in. If your student has an idea for a club that we do not currently offer, have them reach out to their CFA. We have several virtual outing options to allow students to meet peers in their community. We can't wait to be able to hold in-person outings again to meet face-to-face!
Given the challenges we've had in the past year, I do want to remind families that our school Student-Family Resource Coordinator (social worker) offers a session called LLIT (Listen, Learn, Interact, Talk) to all high school students on Thursdays at 3:45pm. LLIT is an OVCA support group for any high school student. Many students have underlying issues that can cause them to be unengaged in school. The goal of LLIT is to be a proactive approach that prevents this by addressing those issues directly through education, interaction, and support. Some of the issues included are depression, anxiety, other mental health topics, character education, self-esteem, peer pressure, health/nutrition, relationships, Bullying, Grief/Loss, substance abuse, career exploration, social media, and more!
As for high school events, we will be working with K12 to offer students a virtual prom this year. Stay tuned for info on this!
Let's make this another great semester! Stay warm and safe out there!
Upcoming Dates:

Tutoring Program Available for OVCA Students
We are excited to announce our school’s new Tutoring Initiative! OVCA will offer personalized academic tutoring based on your child’s needs with an emphasis in the subjects of English Language Arts (Reading/Writing) and Mathematics.
At this time, our new tutoring program will be completely virtual through an online service called TutorMe. Through this program, your child will be able to access a tutor at any time of the day to work on any subject. While the emphasis will be in math and reading, tutors for all subjects are available. The tutor will work with your child’s curriculum to help them improve their grades and gain confidence. The focus of tutoring is to equip your child with different methods of learning so they can have life-long skills in how to best solve problems for assignments, homework and projects.

ACT FEE WAIVERS AVAILABLE FOR OVCA STUDENTS!
Any Junior or Senior that qualifies for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program is also eligible to receive an ACT Fee Waiver for up to 2 tests. This is separate from the above mentioned waivers. Students should email their school counselor for more information regarding the Free/Reduced Lunch ACT Waivers.
Any Native American student in grades 10, 11, or 12 may also qualify for an ACT fee waiver or reimbursement. Students should contact their specific tribal office for more information.
The ACT is offered nationally multiple times per year. The National ACT takes place on a Saturday, typically from 8am-12pm. There are various test locations around the state. To register for the National ACT, students need to visit www.act.org to create an account. During the registration process, you will be able to select the test date and test location of your choice. Fee Waiver Codes are entered on the payment screen during the registration process.
*The National ACT is separate from the State ACT that is required for all 11th graders in the State of Oklahoma for graduation. The State ACT is scheduled to happen in April 2021 pending any changes mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
