Hello Bright Staff!

I am so excited that we are back to a 5-day week! Something about consistency makes me smile. Check out the information below:

Morning Duty Schedule: Carrie will be emailing everyone an updated morning duty schedule to begin Monday (10/17/16). For various valid reasons, we have noticed that staff have been inconsistent with arrival to morning duty and we must ensure that students are monitored at all times. Several people who have not had morning duty will now be added to the schedule. This new schedule will also allow grade level teachers to pick-up students from the cafeteria at 7:30 am instead of 7:20 am beginning Wednesday, (10/19/16) Please read the duty schedule carefully so that you know your responsibilities. "We Need Help" Calls: Please be mindful that everyone (including visitors) hears what is said over the radio. ONLY call for the core team if there is a risk of physical imminent danger to a student, staff or property destruction. Please say over the radio, "Core team to..." If you need additional support in the classroom please call over the radio for Carrie 1st and then Angela W. Here is the link to the form we will use to collect data You can also find it in the Bright Staff Folder under PBIS_SEL.

UIL Coaches: Calling all Coaches! We need 5 coaches to support our 3rd-5th grade students in the district UIL competition. Every coach will receive a $250 stipend. You do not have to work directly with 3rd, 4th or 5th grade students to coach. Any professional staff can serve as a coach. Email or stop and see me or Carrie a.s.a.p. if you are interested.

Teams include:

  • Music Memory for 3rd & 4th grade students - Coach Needed
  • Spelling for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students - Coach Needed
  • Ready Writing for 3rd & 4th grade students - Coach Needed
  • Number Sense for 5th grade students - Coach Needed
  • Maps, Graphs & Charts for 5th grade students - Coach is Kari Sharpe

You will be responsible for:

  • Holding try outs on 11/10/16 3:15 to select your team (only 3 students per grade level - the largest team will have 9 competitors)
  • Practicing with your team about once per month (you can practice more if you'd like)
  • Attending the competition at a local Frisco school on 2/28/17 from 3:45 - 6:30

Professional Learning-Wednesday (10/19): Click the link to register for our PL on Wednesday. Ashley has created the course so that you will received credit.

Frisco Canned Food Drive: Over the next two weeks we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the district food drive. Please encourage students to support the community and bring items. Donation boxes will be visible in the cafeteria. if you have questions please see Carrie.

Morning Meetings/Community Circle: I haven't had any takers on recording your great work. I would love to come in and record. Let me know if you're willing to be recorded. Also, I'd love to record any special greeting you use when students enter the room. If you're looking for ideas, check out this link

Reminder - Parent /Teacher Conferences: The window is now open through November 18th. Please document and keep a record of your conferences with families. Click the link to access the "Parent Notification of Child's Progress in Reading" letter. A completed copy of this letter should be given to the parents during parent/teacher conferences.

Instructional Highlights_You Got Caught...

Kellee & Corey were observed by a district rep on a Tuesday after a 4 day weekend and the feedback was great. The district rep shared that the culture in the classrooms is amazing and she could not believe she was seeing the same students from years past.

Veronica for embracing change to meet the needs of our students and helping him to make significant progress. Angela S. for setting expectations for "turn & talk" and giving students an opportunity to share their learning with others. Check out this video Kate wrapping up math lesson a few minutes early to do an impromptu morning meeting on the importance of setting goals and giving students an opportunity to reflect. Yukki for opening her classroom to a district observer. The district observer shared that art program has totally been transformed and she loved how Yukki embedded SEL throughout the lesson.

Alison, Lonai, Teresa, Jordan & Karie for doing a wonderful job of setting expectations for behavior while off-campus. it was reported that our 4th grade students were the best behaved during the Storytelling Festival field trip.

Celeste for being on top of making sure students have what they need through Clothe a Child, Mentoring, etc. She is always proactive and looking for ways to improve. Cassie for taking on the role of representing Bright at the district Faculty Council meetings.

From the Bright PTA

Kinder Team has 100% participation in Bright's PTA and has become eligible for the free lunch/recess period!! We are so appreciative of your taking the time to join.

PTA, in conjunction with lead teachers, plan three classroom parties each year. These are: Holiday (Dec 16), Valentine's Day (Feb 14) and End of the Year (June 2).

A flier was sent home in Thursday folders this week requesting $8 from parents for the party budget. As money comes in, please give it to Becky Ortega at reception.

We hope to collect at least $300 per grade. That will allow us $100 per grade per party. That's a tight budget, but we make it work. The more students who bring in party money, the higher the budget for that grade level. So, please remind and encourage your students and parents to send in what they can.

It is our goal to have a PTA volunteer coordinator over each grade to plan, purchase and deliver the snacks, crafts and games. It is also our goal to identify a room parent in each class to host and help run the parties. Having parent volunteers will be extremely helpful to you and your parties will run much smoother. We want the parties to be fun for the students, parents, and teachers.

In years past we have often struggled to identify these volunteers. This is where you can best help us to help you. As you get to know your parents and meet with them during conference times, please ask about their availability to attend the parties and their willingness to help in preparing. Email parents asking for party helpers. Then let us know who you have identified by giving us their names, phone numbers and email addresses. We will contact them and prepare them for the job.
