Cool in Kindergarten
Reading
This month student will be learning that despite their young age and varied abilities,
with a little hard work, some practice, and the mindset of perseverance, they
too can achieve their goals.
Reading and vocabulary:

Things to do together at home:
1. Practice big idea words and words to know
2. Make a special time and place to read with your child every day
3. Practice letter names, letter sounds, and phonemic awareness skills such as beginning/ending sounds, rhyming, and counting syllables in a given word.
4. Practice writing your first and last name
5. Complete 20 minutes of activity on Istation daily
Math
This month, your child will learn about composing and decomposing as well as addition and subtraction. Skills your child will practice include:
• adding by putting together and adding to
• using addition facts to 5 to add
• counting on to add numbers to 10
• writing and solving addition sentences
• subtracting by taking from and taking apart
• using subtraction facts to 5 to subtract
• counting back to subtract numbers to 10
• writing and solving subtraction sentences
Activities to try at home
Activity 1
• Gather dominoes with number parts that add to 10 or less or go online to print free printable dominoes.
• Put the dominoes in a paper bag.
• Pick a domino, count the dots on each side, and add to find the sum.
• Return the domino to the bag before your child leads the next round.
Activity 2
• Gather 10 identical objects such as dried beans or seashells and a number cube.
• Roll the number cube and take away objects that match the number on the cube.
• Call out a subtraction sentence after the roll such as “10 take away is six.”
• Have your child lead the next round.

Science
Earth and Space:
- Students will explore, observe and discuss objects in the sky
- Students will learn about weather
Things to do at home:
- Encourage your child to discuss naturally occurring objects in the sky
- Discuss weather and changes in weather
Social Studies
In social studies we are working on...
1. Identifying Earth's natural resources and how we use them
2. Describing and comparing what other places and communities are like
3. Identifying and discussing how families are similar and different
Important Dates
- February 10th-12th - No School
- February 22nd - No School
Reminders
Please make sure that your child has their mask, school supplies, and device.
Please check your child's schoology page to assure that they have completed their assignments for the day.
- Remind students to bring their own water bottle to school for the day. Please fill with water.
Remind your student to wash their hands with soap, after scrubbing for 20 seconds.
Virtual and face to face students must come to class on time for their daily instruction.
