April 2023

Big picture

Dear Parent/Guardian,

April marks the start of our final testing season for the year, when our students are taking the end-of-the year tests that matter most. Please make sure that your child is in school every day, on time and ready to learn. As discussed below, absences have a very negative effect on a student's academic performance. This is true whether the absence is excused or unexcused. Please make yourself familiar with the important testing dates below. We start FAST testing for K-2nd grade mid-April.

Team Success is once again offering Saturday School for students in tested subjects in grades 3-11. We have three Saturday Schools in April, so make sure your student takes advantage of these nine additional instructional hours this month. Details below.

Thank you for being a part of our Team Success family!

As always, please feel free to reach out to your child's teachers and to our school staff and administrators in the main office with any questions or concerns.

Senior class visits Mote Marine

The senior class traveled to Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota on Monday, March 27, 2023. It was part of their Environmental Science class, led by Ms. Majchrzak. They enjoyed touring the beautiful Sea Aquarium and the Marine Mammal Center. Also, students learned to review and analyze real Sea Turtle data! Working in groups, students tracked a turtle and determined trends, habits, or behaviors in the data. They became comfortable with presenting their findings and their conclusions, in a real laboratory setting.

The touch tanks and many exhibits brought the students so much closer to the animals than they expected. This experience really pushed their curiosity and fueled a passion to learn more about the sea. According to Ms. Majchrzak, “I was extremely pleased with the overall trip, and here at Team Success, we will continue our relationship with Mote Marine to promote further science endeavors.”

Four more Team Success students selected for Take Stock in Children Scholarships!

Four ninth grade students have recently been accepted as Take Stock In Children (TSIC) Scholars after completing a rigorous application, selection, and interview process. This brings the current total of TSIC Scholars at Team Success to thirty! In addition, seven staff members currently serve as mentors in the program.

Take Stock in Children of Manatee County is a nonprofit organization with over twenty years of experience combating poverty through education, by selecting middle and high school students and matching them with mentors from the community who develop multi-year relationships with them. Scholars who successfully complete the program receive a scholarship to college upon graduation from high school.

Attendance Matters: In school, every day!

Please make sure that your child is in school every day for every class, on time and ready to learn.

Did you know that missing 10% or more of school puts a child in much greater danger of falling behind academically and struggling with reading and math? It also increases the danger of not graduating from high school.

Ten percent is just 2 days a month! That means that being absent just 2 days a month puts your child at greater risk. This is true regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

So please, in as much as possible, make medical appointments outside school hours and take vacations or trips during school breaks, so your children receive the full benefits of their time at Team Success. This is particularly important right now, as we prepare for those important end-of-year state tests.
