El Dorado Monday Memo
Week 16 December 9th, 2019
#ToroFamily
One down, two to go. As we enter into the final 2 weeks before break, we would like all teachers to "polish the tracks" for some of our school-wide procedures and routines just to tighten up as we have had some incidents and seen an increase in some routines not being followed. An email will follow the MM with more specifics about what to specifically go over but all the "big" ones would be great to review with students.
10 Days of Friendship: Please join us in sharing with students our 10 Days of Friendship for the last 2 weeks. ALL TEACHERS, please review our EDMS Student Monday Memo with each period to review the 10 Days of Friendship. Thanks to Julie and Kari for putting this together again this year.
We will continue spending our time working together to develop PROGRESS CHARTS for the next couple weeks as well as January. A folder with templates and examples will be shared with you through your .net account. Please bring your ideas to Wednesday's RAP meeting as we will be spending a majority of our time working on our PCs together.
Don't forget to check out the 12 Days of Chrismukkah! Today, we have some yummy warm treats and toppings for your Keurig beverage of choice. Be sure to look at 12 Days of Chrismukkah calendar here for more information and how you can participate in the funtivities!

Counselor's Corner...
Conflict between friends.
Ask students if they have had arguments with their friends and how they solved them. Let them know that being friends doesn’t mean you’ll never argue. In good, productive arguments, both people get to say what’s on their mind without feeling judged, mocked or insulted. Review tips on how to have a respectful disagreement and have students come up with their own.
1)Don’t broadcast your argument to other people. That means not writing about it on social media or telling other friends about your fight. Keep it between the two of you.
2) Use “I” statements. Say, “I felt sad when you yelled at me”, instead of “I can’t believe you yelled at me.”
3) Never call your friend names or use physical threats or violence. 4) Stay calm. If you find yourself getting upset, take a time out. Agree to talk again once you’ve had time to cool off.

This Week in AVID - December 9, 2019
Philosophical Chairs enables students to practice how to formulate, defend and analyze arguments. We can begin as early as TK as there are three levels of this strategy. Take a look at the linked materials to begin moving your students to deeper levels of inquiry.
