Hello Bobcats!
The first 9-weeks is a wrap. There will not be any grade repair next week and we will start again on the 27th. Next week, 8th grade students only, will complete the PSAT on Wednesday starting at 8:05. Please ensure your student is on time to campus, so we can start and end at the planned times. Our next Paws For Fun is on October 29th. The link to the Pep Rally is in the newsletter directly below my blurb. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me and have an amazing weekend.
Living The Dream,
Mr. Loyd

New GPA Information
The class of 2025 (current 8th graders) will be the first class of students to have their Grade Point Average calculated using the district’s new GPA policy. Many high school credit courses that would have been used in the calculation of a student’s GPA will no longer be used in that calculation. The only courses that can be taken in middle school and included in the high school GPA are currently Spanish and algebra. Please see the information below comparing the old and new GPA calculation process.

PSAT 8/9 October 20th, 2021
On October 20, 2021, 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT 8/9. The PSAT 8/9 tests the same skills as the SAT but in ways that are accessible to 8th grade students. Results from the PSAT 8/9 will be available by January of 2022 and will show whether students are on track to be college ready by the end of their senior year of high school; results can also be linked to personalized study guides in Khan Academy to help students build on strengths and address gaps in learning as they proceed through high school. Information on the test, including samples of question types, can be found here.
Other than knowing that they will be taking the PSAT 8 and coming to school rested and ready, there is nothing that 8th grade students need to do to prepare for the PSAT 8/9. We look forward to seeing what students can do on this assessment.

504 Information
We are have begun the 2021-2022 504 seasons and it has been great getting to meet with you all and ensuring our Bobcats are successful. New to our campus and district is a new accommodation that helps supports our Bobcats for district assessments and STAAR tests. This new accommodation is known as "Content and Language Supports" or what I have been describing as "Great Teaching!!" in the classroom. Below is a link that will help clarify any questions you may have when we discuss the accommodation this year in our 504 meetings and 504 amendment meetings. Again, thank you for being a collaborative partner in the success of our Bobcats!

COVID Exposure & Quarantine
Once we receive notice that a COVID positive person has been on our campus during their infectious period the following will occur. Email notifications will be sent with a dashboard of number of cases reported on campus for that day. The notification will include all classrooms that the covid positive person(s) was in on the included dates. The parent must check the listed classrooms to determine if their child was in those same classes. The policy is that anyone in the same classroom with the covid positive person is considered to be a close contact exposure. The parent is responsible for notifying attendance by sending a copy of the email to BMS.attendance@hayscisd.net if you choose to keep your child home on quarantine. The following is the policy regarding quarantine for close contact classroom exposure.
Hays CISD, as well as the local health department, recommends self-quarantine and monitoring for symptoms for anyone that has had close contact with someone with COVID-19. Quarantine keeps someone who might have been exposed to the virus away from others. This means that we recommend your student stay home and not be around other people outside your household or those with health concerns during this time. Per district protocol, quarantine is optional at this time for close contact COVID exposure as long as your student remains symptom free.
- If, at any time during the two weeks after your child’s exposure to COVID-19, they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, please keep your student home and let the campus nurse know immediately.
- IF you choose to quarantine, the following guidelines are suggested:
- Option 1: If you choose not to test your child for COVID-19, your child should quarantine for 10 full days from last exposure to the positive individual. Your child must also remain asymptomatic for the entirety of the quarantine.
- Option 2: If you choose to have your child tested for COVID-19, please choose a PCR COVID-19 test and schedule the test for at least 5 days after their exposure to the covid-positive person. If your child’s test comes back negative and they remain symptom free they may return to campus.
Please notify the nurse if anyone in your home test positive for COVID. The quarantine requirements for in home covid exposure are different. If someone in the students home is positive they must remain off campus and isolate from the covid positive person. They can test after day 5 of last exposure and if negative return on day 8 or remain off campus 10 full days if you choose not to test.
COVID Positive cases
Please notify campus nurse immediately if your student test positive for COVID. All covid positive individuals must quarantine 10 full days from onset of symptoms or positive test date, whichever came first. You must provide a copy of the covid positive test results for attendance to be excused. A campus wide notification will go out to all parents and staff via email for any covid positive person who was on campus during their infectious period.
Illness or Covid symptoms
Any student sent home or kept home with covid like symptoms must provide a negative PCR covid test or an MD note clearing the student to return to campus. If you choose not to test or see an MD you must remain off campus for 10 full days from onset of symptoms. Please notify attendance of your absence via BMS.attendance@hayscisd.net
