A Quote From Shakespear's Hamlet
By: Nick Hooge
"Sweets to the sweet!"
This quote from Hamlet is said by the Queen(his mom), to Hamlet about ophelia's death, and how he should have married her while she was alive. "Sweets to the sweet!" is what is being said, and the meaning of this is significant to the play. The meaning is giving flowers to Ophelia, and putting them on her grave because she is dead. Hamlet feels guilty for not marrying her, and this is one of the reasons why he contemplates suicide later in the play, but he doesn't. The Queen, then adds on to the fact that he didn't marry Ophelia, and that brings him into a state of depression.
