What does the circulatory system do?

The circulatory system pumps blood through your body, consisting of the heart, blood vessels, blood and lymph.

The circulatory system job is to be transporting materials throughout your whole body. It transports things like: water, nutrient and oxygen.

The circulatory system has three main parts:

The heart

The blood

The blood vessels

Blood cells:

Red blood cells- carry’s oxygen and carbon dioxide.

White blood cells- Fights germs in your body.

Platelets- It helps you stop bleeding when you have a cut.

Plasma- Is the liquid part of blood.

The blood vessels:

Arteries- Carry’s oxygen away from your heart.

Capillaries- Tiny blood vessels that takes Food substances, oxygen and wastes pass in and out of your blood through the capillary walls.

Veins- Carry’s blood towards your heart.

The heart

The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout your blood vessels. it has six main parts and they are: Superior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, left ventricle and right ventricle. The heart also pumps blood through your whole body.

Disease of the circulatory system

One of the most common disease for circulatory system is arteriosclerosis. This disease cause to have narrow arteries which cause to disrupt the flow of your blood around your body, causing serious cardiovascular complications.


Another disease is called hypertension- this causes this hard to work a lot harder and can cause the heart to led to a heart attack and stroke.
