Mr. O'Connell's Weekly Updates

Coolidge Elementary 11-2-20

Morning Drop off and pick up

Thanks for remembering to drop off students at 8:30 to come in for breakfast at their spots and 8:40 we will invite all into the building. We start dismissing car riders at 3:45 Mon-Thurs and walkers at 3:50. On Friday we will be starting to dismiss car riders at 2:15 and walkers at 2:20.

Our conferences will obviously look different this year as we will be conducting them virtually. Your child’s teacher sent home a shared doc for you to sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher over Google Meet. If you do not have computer access at home, please talk with your child’s teacher so we can make arrangements with you prior to the scheduled conference. Our goal is to be meeting with all families during the month of November.

If your child is having a lunch from home and ordering a milk from school, they are charged 50 cents for the milk. Just wanted all families to be aware of this with home lunches.

Virtual Book Fair

Please shop our Coolidge book fair to buy great new books for your child's home library, for their classroom library and to support our Coolidge library! Our first online Follett book fair will be November 2-16th. Books can be purchased online from our fair with a credit card. The books ordered will be shipped to Coolidge, and we will distribute them to staff and students the week of November 30-December 4. We will also contact families of virtual Coolidge learners that week to arrange a time to pick up their book orders from Coolidge. With the holidays coming up, this would be a wonderful opportunity to buy new books for your loved ones. When you add a gift book to your online cart, on the left side, you can select that it is a gift. We will send gift books home with your child in a sealed envelope addressed to you.

Book Fair video instructions - students will be watching this video in class

You can browse the book fair anytime and can make purchases between November 2-16. Our book fair contains a large selection of popular, new titles.

Teachers are creating wish lists on our online book fair. Purchasing books for classroom libraries is a great way to support your child's teacher and our library. We will place donation labels inside each book before delivering them to teachers.

The profits earned from our book fair will be used to purchase new library books. At Coolidge, most of our budget for new library books comes from book fairs, so please help it be a success. Thanks for supporting our readers with terrific new books!

The weather is ever changing as we inch closer and closer to winter, so this is a reminder to make sure you are sending your child to school with clothing that is suitable for the weather. We will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill is below 10 degrees. Having appropriate winter gear will help your child to stay warm while they are playing outside. Thanks so much!

We continue to practice emergency drills here at school. We have practiced fire, tornado drills last month. We will also practice an emergency drill this month to practice what to do in an emergency situation. We will practice them again in the spring as well. If you have any questions regarding our drills, please let me know. We practice all our drills so that students and staff know what to do in emergency situations. Do you have a system in place at your house for these emergency situations?

District guidelines with COVID-19

District Health Guidelines regarding COVID-19-- This link goes to the site the district has created to be a one stop shop for getting answers to student health guidelines. One question that has come up several times is, “Will I be contacted if a student in my child’s class tests positive for the virus?”--The answer is that if a child tests positive in the classroom, our nurse with the help of our staff will identify those students that would have been in close contact with the student and that is who would be contacted. Please see the documents linked for further questions also.

Facebook for Coolidge

Coolidge Courier

Here is the link to our monthly Coolidge Courier Newsletter. We will send one print copy home with each family this week. The link is also located on the Coolidge website if you need to find it. These are great memories of your child’s Coolidge years by keeping the newsletters in a binder.

School Book Fees

Please be watching for a statement to be coming out in the next week with your students' School Fees… if you would like to pay them online you can log in to your Infinite Campus account at any time and pay fees there or send them into the office with your child’s name on it. Thanks so much!
