Thursday 8th December

'And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.' - Gospel of Matthew

Dear whānau,

This is where things tend to get crazy busy in the lead up to the end of the year. It's easy to get lost with what's going on, when and who for, so below is a wee breakdown for you to help you with your diary ...

Friday 9th December - no Leavers Assembly or normal Assembly today due to a funeral in the Church

Monday 12th December - Spirit of Southland Xmas Themed Mufti Day (for all students). Come wearing your best Xmas kit and bring a gold coin donation for the Gore Women's Refuge and the Tania Dalton Foundation (helping young people into sport).

Monday at 2pm we also have our Leavers Assembly followed by a normal Assembly. We also farewell the year 6 leavers at Mass but the Leavers Assembly is run by them, come and see how much they've grown up from their photo as a wee person to their current photo. Let's celebrate these amazing leaders and role models!

Monday is also the day that your child will arrive home with their Celebration Book and end of year report for 2022.

Tuesday 13th December - Junior Nativity - 6pm in the Church. Gold coin donation for entry.

Wednesday 14th December - Whole School TREAT! A Christmas movie and ice cream at the St James Theatre.

Thursday 15th December - Whole School end of year Mass - children to meet in the school quad at 5.45pm in their school uniform please.

Thursday 15th December - Last day of school for 2022.

Stationery Packs for 2023

Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th December - stationery for your child can be collected from the office. These come in packs with everything your child will need for 2023 as well as a list of what each book is for so you can cover and label them over the holidays if you wish to. This is for all classes. If your child has only just started school, pop in and see Di about their stationery because they will be able to use a lot of the books they already have for the start of 2023. The cost of these is different for each year group but is usually under $30. This is added to your school account and can be paid off throughout the year. You will also (fingers crossed) get our annual magnet that has all the important dates (that we have confirmed) for 2023.

The first day back in 2023 will be Wednesday 1st of February.

God bless you all.

Room Ruru at the Hokonui Rūnaka

Room Ruru and Miss Smith were kindly invited out to the Hokonui Rūnaka for their Christmas party. They shared waiata and kapa haka to a group of Kaumātua. They also learnt how to play some Māori Games. They had lots of fun. What a great way to give back at Christmas Room Ruru. Thanks Kylie for the special invitiaton.

Super writing from Room Ruru

Winter is the best season

I strongly believe winter is the best season on Earth. Why you might ask? Because my Mum and Dad let me go to the skifield.

There is no doubt that winter is the best season because there are many activities to do like building a snowman, making snow angels and tobogganing down a hill. Not to mention the nice warm hot chocolate with mega mellows that are mooshy and gooey.

Congrats to our orange team who have grown in confidence & skillset during this season. We went through only losing one game to the eventual competition winners.

Thanks to our super star coaches Bain & Mason who helped refine each player and shared their knowledge of the game. We had a wonderful group of supportive whanau which also contributed to a positive season.

What a great group of lads! We hope to continue to see you playing basketball in the future.
