🎉Welcome back Northwood families and students🎉 We hope you are as excited as we are about the new school year!


Just like our Northwood school website, our weekly Bulldog Blast e-newsletter, you will continue to provide weekly updates and announcements for our K-8 communities. We will also be continuing to highlight our bulldogs in our 'Bulldog Spotlight' section below so please feel free to start sending your pictures to Ms. Urbano, curbano@northwoodcs.org.

Please be advised, transpasses were handed out this week. If your child received a transpass that will be their transpass for the entire year. Please DO NOT throw it away.

Looking Ahead...


  • PSSA testing for grades 4-8 will take place next week, September 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th, and 14th. Below take time to re-read the attached letters below. PSSA Parent Letter, PSSA Letter. Please remember to bring your calculator from the student supply list.


  • MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 9th, from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm. Please note, this event will now be held virtually. Please keep a look for the event zoom link in the coming days.


  • Please be advised, we are using group COVID-19 testing again this year, these tests are 99% accurate and are a gentle nasal swab. Parents, there is a waiver to sign for your child to be tested. No child will be tested without a parent waiver. This is not mandatory. CLICK HERE for the Student COVID Testing Consent Form.

REMIND APP SIGN-UP

If you have not done so already please sign up for our NACS Remind App: the best way to stay in the know on all school updates and happenings in real-time. Parents will receive Wednesday Reminders and school-wide information via this platform.


  • The simplest way to sign-up is via text message through the following method:

    • Text @nacsnews to the number 81010

    • You will either be prompted to log in as normal, or you will receive a message that you are already signed up. This is not an error; it means that the user already has an active account in another class (for students).

  • If students have already signed up for a class on Remind they will automatically receive the school-wide Remind messages.

*Important Note: You must select the PARENT role when joining the App. If you select the wrong role, you will NOT receive schoolwide messages.

SPORTs updates

Attention Parents/Guardians of Northwood student-athletes:


According to the CDC, children as young as 12 years of age are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination. If a student can show proof of vaccination they will NOT have to wear a mask during outside game play. They will however still have to wear the mask on the sidelines and on team transportation. If your child is vaccinated please take a picture of the vaccination card and email it to the school’s Athletic Director to be kept on file for reference. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition back in school and organized athletics. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school's Athletic Director. Thank you.

**TRY OUT INFORMATION**

Please note the following,

Tryouts for:

Co-Ed SOCCER (5th-8th Grade)

Co-Ed FLAG FOOTBALL (6th-8th grade), and

Co-Ed CROSS COUNTRY (5th-8th) grade will be held after school on Thursday, September 2nd.


Permission slips and Tryout information/details will be sent out on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. Sign-up sheets are outside the school cafeteria. PLEASE NOTE, siblings of Northwood students are not permitted at the try-outs unsupervised. Thank you for your understanding.

Community Corner: LEAP Afterschool Program (inperson)

LEAP is a free, drop-in program for school-age youth at Free Library locations throughout the city.


LEAP will always work to cultivate an inclusive and accessible safe space for youth to participate in hands-on, literacy-filled activities and learning games.

Philadelphia City Rowing Update

Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR) is thrilled to announce that they are welcoming NEW students to their team! PCR is a FREE sports-based youth development program that empowers Philadelphia public school students to reach their highest potential on and off the water. Their program is open to anyone in grades 7 through 12 and works to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows every student to succeed.

The Middle School Program starts on Tuesday, September 21st, and runs through the end of October. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 to 6:30 pm and on Saturdays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. MIDDLE SCHOOL information CLICK HERE (7th and 8th grade)

STARTING September 13th, practice will tentatively take place Monday through Friday from 4 to 6:30 pm and on Saturdays from 8 to 11 am.

If you live in a shelter, motel, or even doubled up with other people due to loss of housing for economic hardship, you may qualify for certain rights and protections under the federal McKinney-Vento Act. A full definition of what constitutes homelessness can be found below.
