PM Parent Pickup
An important note about pick-up. Any student who is being picked up after school must be picked up in our parent pick-up loop. Asking your child to walk off campus to get picked up causes problems for the community and the private businesses that are in the neighborhood. We have a great relationship with all of our neighbors in the community, and we want to keep it this way. All parents are expected to follow the school procedure for student pick up by waiting patiently in the parent pickup loop after school.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
Chamber Orchestra Performance at the Mahaffey Theatre
Thursday, Oct. 12
MSA Chamber Orchestra students were invited by the Florida Orchestra, as a part of their Pre-Concert Lobby Performance program, to perform at the Mahaffey Theatre prior to the Florida Orchestra concert Thursday, Oct. 12. We arrived to enjoy donuts and a pre-concert lecture by Principal Guest Conductor, Stuart Molina before our performance began. The MSA Chamber Orchestra entertained the audience with repertoire from the Romantic Period (our curriculum this school year) which included the Habanera from the opera Carmen and the well known, In the Hall of the Mountain King. Students then received free tickets to the Florida Orchestra performance which was an outstanding and highly inspiring experience.

Attention Seniors - Golden Herald Awards
The Golden Herald Awards program originated in 1978 to honor outstanding Manatee County high school seniors for noble service to their schools and community. All high school seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA and service to their school/community are eligible for nomination.
The essential qualification for a Golden Herald nominee is SERVICE. The Golden Herald Award in each category is given to the individual whose record of achievement and service to school and community best exemplifies the unselfish use of talents and abilities to help others. Your Community Service does not have to specifically relate to your category although some participation in your category is recommended.
The winners will receive a Golden Herald Award medallion, a cash award and a trophy. The honorable mention award recipients will receive a cash award and a trophy. All nominees will receive a certificate of merit.
Applications to be nominated for a Golden Herald Award are available in High School Guidance. See Ms. Quick for more Information or email her at tquick@msaschool.org.
Deadline to turn in the application is Wednesday, December 20, 2017. No late applications will be accepted.
Free and Reduced Lunch

Workshops at the Straz Center/Patel Conservatory
First, three students went to a "Monster Makeup" workshop on Saturday, October 21st. Jessica Thompson, Katherine Dempsey, and Lauren Buehler attended the workshop after their stage makeup teachers recommended them for the program, and had a great time learning the art of monster makeup!!
A group of 9 MSA students were able to attend a dance workshop with the cast of "On Your Feet", the Gloria Estefan musical. They learned a piece of choreography from the show and had a question and answer session with members of the tour cast, who were performing that night in Tampa. The students learned a lot during the 1 1/2 hour workshop!!
