Natural Resources Simulation
The United States of Cavedonia
Analyze
During the simulation, I was a part of the U.S.C (United States of Cavedonia). In my country I helped make decisions, and trades with other countries. In the beginning of the simulation, we started out with a fairly even amount of resources. We started out with a population of 50,000, 10% water, 15% timber, 15% sand, and 50% metal. My country only made two trades. We traded 5% metal for 10% water, then we traded 5% metal for 5% sand. But then we had a mine collapse, we lost 2% metal, and 2,000 people. We ended the simulation with a population of 48,000, 20% water, 15% timber, 20% sand, and 38% metal. Other countries came to disagreements over resources, but resolved by trading.
Application
People fight for natural resources every day, whether it's you fighting your sibling for the shower, or two countries fighting for the rights of a river. Such as, the tri-state water war. The states of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida fought over the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin and the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin. The dispute went on for many years, there were lawsuits and legal actions taken for the rights of the river basins.
