Tech Talks

Edition 2: August Adventures

New Programs and New Faculty

We are so excited to offer two new programs at MCCTC! In the morning, we have added Law Enforcement, taught by Mr. Burnie Stedham, a recent retiree from Huntsville City Police Department. We love having Mr. Stedham on campus and the students are enjoying every aspect of this course!

We have also added Hospitality/Tourism for the afternoon session, and it is taught by Mrs. Ashley Davis. Mrs. Davis has previously taught in a classroom and is currently working with the students to prepare the kitchen lab for cooking meals. Although cooking is only one component of the program, it is highly desired by the students!

Welcome to both Mr. Stedham and Mrs. Davis! We are glad you are now a "Techie".

Parking Permits

All current drivers on campus should now have a parking permit hanging from their rear-view mirror.

Please remember that all drivers are to be in class at 8:30am/12:30pm in order to be considered on time to school.

For the afternoon session, all drivers dismiss at 3:30pm, when all MCSS high schools are dismissed.

If a student begins driving to MCCTC during the school year, please have the following in order to obtain a parking permit:

1. completed parking permit application

2. copy of valid driver's license

3. copy of most recent auto insurance

Students with the above-mentioned items can obtain a permit in the front office between 8:30am-9:00am and 12:30pm-1:00pm.

Students driving/parking on campus without a permit will be subject to a fine and/or disciplinary action. See Ms. Robertson if you have questions.

Alabama Simulated Workplace

Today's Students Will Be Tomorrow's Workers!

Beginning this school year, the MCCTC will be implementing the Alabama Simulated Workplace model. The Alabama Simulated Workplace is "focused on middle and high school students – preparing them for a lifetime of achievement in school and their future careers. It accomplishes this by teaching them about modern workplace requirements and industry best practices."

Each of our CTE programs on campus have created a business name and are working to implement the beginning stage of ASW: hiring a workforce (enrolling students), developing a company name, developing an organizational structure, and creating a company policy manual.

We are super excited to see how the implementation of the ASW will benefit our students!

Safety First: No Phone Zone

As we implement the Alabama Simulated Workplace, MCCTC is now a "No Phone Zone" when inside any of the buildings, classrooms, or shops. Cell phones in a shop/lab setting are a safety hazard and distraction to one in the workplace.

Cell phone lockers have been made available for students to secure their phones should they forget and bring them inside.

Failing to follow appropriate cell phone policies for their business (class) will be as follows:

  • 1st offense- phone is turned into main office; student may pick up at end of class

  • 2nd offense- phone is turned into main office; parent must pick up between 3:30pm and 4:15pm

  • 3rd offense- phone is turned into main office; parent must pick up between 3:30pm and 4:15pm; student assigned Honor Codes

  • Additional Offenses- phone is turned into main office; parent must pick up between 3:30pm and 4:15pm; student will receive In/Out of school suspension
