Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

JMS grades 4, 5 and 6 recently completed the classroom-level round of the 2016 Spelling Bee, sending the following students to the school round. Please join me in congratulating these classroom representatives, all of whom will compete on April 28th for the right to move on to the district's final championship round:

  • Grade 4 Josh DeLello, Sawyer Harrison, Justin Whipple
  • Grade 5 James Hunter, A.J. Nieves, Emma Zontok
  • Grade 6 Chandler Coe, Charlie Coffey, Joshua Descoteaux

L.I.F.E. Night

We had a great turnout for tonight's PreK - Gr.2 "Literacy is for Everyone (L.I.F.E.) Night". Mrs. Hodgkinson, Mrs. Phelan, Mrs. Barger, Mrs. Leonard, Mrs. Connery and Mrs. Amy Kennedy planned a fun-filled night of literacy-related activities connected to their readaloud of "The Little Red Hen". It was a pleasure to see so many children and parents finding time in their busy evening schedules to join us for tonight's event!

Nature's Classroom

Yet again, our students were recognized for their exceptional behavior and manners while on a field trip, the latest being the 6th graders' three-day stay at Nature's Classroom with their peers from GCS and WS. Similar to previous hosts of this JMS cohort, the Nature's Classroom staff shared that this was "one of the best groups of children" they had ever seen. The students, parents, teachers, and support staff should all be proud of their daily efforts that all contribute to this consistent high praise.

Community Service Award Winner

Congratulations to sixth-grader Charlotte Korn, JMS's recipient of the 2016 the Community Service Award. Secretary of the State, Denise W. Merrill and the Connecticut Citizenship Fund, Inc. started this award to recognize students throughout Connecticut who have made a difference within their community. In support of this wonderful effort, Region 6 elementary schools each recognized one student from 5th or 6th grade for this award. Charlotte is not only an active member in her community and within our Leadership Awareness Workshop (LAW) group, but she regularly volunteers to help other students and staff during school, on the bus, and at after-hours school events. Samantha Brady was also a finalist for the award with an impressive list of community service contributions. We are extremely proud with the way in which both Charlotte and Samantha represent JMS and the Morris community!

Kindergarten Registration

Regional School District No. 6 is currently conducting kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year. Children must be 5 years of age on or before December 31st of this year to be eligible for kindergarten enrollment this fall. Please call our main office at 860-567-7420 to request a registration packet. (See notice below)

6th Graders to select Middle School Electives

On behalf of our colleagues at the middle school, we ask that parents of JMS 6th-graders have a discussion with their child(ren) about taking a foreign language. The complete Program of Studies for 7th and 8th grade students can be found on Wamogo's website here. There will be a parent night at Wamogo in May where the middle school team can answer questions and address concerns about 7th grade. More details about this event to follow.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments or concerns.

Have a wonder April break,

KC Chapman
