Bear Tracks
January 28, 2018
A Note From the Principal:
It was a bit of a crazy week, so we have a Sunday Bear Tracks this week. We'll get back to Thursday for this coming week.
We are coming up on February, which is the heart of winter. Typically, this is the time of year that stresses can seem a little bit higher and patience can be harder to muster. We need to work collectively to focus on the great things happening in our classrooms and around the school and to be mindful of our attitudes and reactions to stress. As a group, it is really important that we actively share and celebrate the positives and that we act as upstanders if negativity starts to rear it's head. The climate at Bear Tavern is all of our responsibility and the fuel of a great climate is sharing of positivity and of joy. If someone slips and lets out a negative comment, think of how you could shift the conversation into something that will motivate and energize everyone in the room!
While it seems trivial, the boost that we give by focusing on the good and sharing positivity truly does make all of the difference. I'm going to make it a focus for myself this week/month and challenge everyone to join me!
Thanks for all that you do and for all of the tireless effort that you put in. It is appreciated.
Have a great Sunday!
Sincerely,
Chris

Den Groups: February 1st. AM Special Schedule. Here is the rundown: at 8:50 we'll meet in the gym for a whole-school meeting. At the meeting, I'll talk about World Read Aloud Day and introduce our 20 guest readers (One for each Den Group!). The guest readers are mostly central office staff and board of education members, along with some representatives from the police & fire departments, etc. The complete list and Den Group assignments will be emailed Monday or Tuesday. During the whole school meeting, I'll introduce the Road to the Reading Final Four and I'll unveil the 32 books for this year. CLICK HERE to see the list. After the meeting (around 9:20) the guests will go back to Den Group locations and read one of the 32 books aloud (I am communicating with the readers and will secure the appropriate books). After they read you can have a short Q&A with the reader. If time allows beyond that, you can distribute the book reading record and model how to fill it in for the first book (the record will have list of the books, a column for 'check marks,' five 'paw prints' so that they can rate it on a 1-5 and a small comments column.
