Region 15 Education Service Center
Weekly Newsletter - March 8, 2021
Happy Monday,
WIth multiple times for spring breaks across the region, ESC 15 will not have a set week off. Rather staff will be selecting what week to take off, but each department will have coverage during each week. If you are needing a specific person, you can either call or email the person and/or call our switchboard, and we will connect you with someone in the department that can assist you with your needs.
I do hope that you are able to get some rest and recharge during the week!
Thank you,
Casey Callahan, Ed.D.

March is National Nutrition Month and March 8-12 is School Breakfast Week!
We want to extend a special “thank you” and appreciation to each and every one of you for the work that you do every day to ensure children are getting healthy meals.
District of Innovation Plan
A DOI-designated district may choose to renew the plan (for up to an additional 5 years) at any point during the initial term of the plan. Note that the amendment of a plan differs from renewal of a plan, so for a district to renew the plan at its meeting tomorrow it must have completed all of the required steps.
Pursuant to 19 TAC §102.1313(a)(3) Renewal: During renewal, all sections of the plan and exemptions shall be reviewed and the district must follow all components outlined in §102.1307 of this title (relating to Adoption of Local Innovation Plan).
In other words, in order to renew the plan, the district must repeat all the same steps it took to initially adopt the plan (with the exception of the initial resolution and public hearing to determine if the district would like to be designated a DOI). Note: should the plan expire prior to being renewed, the adoption process, in its entirety, must begin again.
Please note that a district may only have one innovation plan at any given time (19 TAC §102.1311). As such, a renewed plan takes effect only after the term of the district’s current innovation plan expires. In the instance that the district intends for the term of a renewed plan to begin prior to the expiration of its current plan, the renewed plan supersedes the district’s current plan at that time and the current plan is considered void.
Here is a flowchart of the adoption process created by TASB that may be useful.
