Dear Heath Community:
We are using a new newsletter format now and this is our inaugural issue of the "Community Notes" on the smore platform. Enjoy!

The students in the Soap Box Derby class, led by the intrepid Mr. Durant, is a chance for students to design, build, work with real tools, pilot, practice, and collaborate. Then it's an even more awesome opportunity to strap on a helmet, wreck, roll down hills, and have a blast.
Write Matt Durant at matt_durant@psbma.org to find out more!

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 9am: Science Fair 2023 Workshop #2
The 2nd of 4 Science Fair prep workshops is coming up this Saturday, Jan. 7th @ 9a. Join us on Zoom here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/3896912429
Whether you are just starting to think about the March 4th Science Fair or are already working on a project, THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME. On Saturday, we will help young scientists:
- Come up with ideas: go over general project categories, share past years' examples
- Get organized: give highlights on timeline, logbook / science journal, planning resources, presentation format
- Think about projects' next steps: in a one-on-one conversation with a Science Fair Committee member, students can discuss project status, get feedback, ask questions
For lots of great information, visit the Science Fair website often, and reach out to any Committee member (below). We're here to help!
See you Saturday.

Notes from the Library
The Brookline Public Library wants to remind parents that they have a full calendar of events for children this winter and spring, including after school activities, elementary book clubs, crafting activities, Dungeons and Dragons program for tweens, and more. Find out more on their calendar. It also has ongoing reading challenges for all ages, which are a great match for both kids who already love reading and kids who may need a prize or two to keep them going. Information about our reading challenges (1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, 200 Books Before Middle School, and 100 Books Before High School and Graduation) can be found on their website.
Kindergarten Registration: Happening Now
Registration for the upcoming KIndergarten class is slated to begin in January 2023. In preparation, the Office of Registration and Enrollment will be hosting two virtual information sessions on the enrollment process - the next session is scheduled Thursday, January 12, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. We are committed to ensuring that our newest families and students have a smooth and successful transition to the first day of school in Brookline.
